TRANSFERRING CREDITS

Transfer Credit Accreditation

College of the Ozarks accepts transfer credit from institutions accredited by the following institutional accrediting agencies.  Credits earned must have a grade of C- or above and not be vocational or developmental.  Courses with grades of D, F, S, and P will not be accepted.

  • Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges, Western Association of Schools and Colleges (ACCJC)
  • Higher Learning Commission (HLC)
  • Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE)
  • New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE)
  • Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU)
  • Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)
  • WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC)
  • Transnational Association of Christian Colleges (TRACS)
  • Association for Biblical Higher Education (ABHE)

Courses completed at institutions accredited by institutional accrediting agencies not listed above will be reviewed upon request following completion of the student’s first semester at C of O.  The student should contact the Registrar’s Office to communicate the exact courses he or she would like considered for evaluation.  The Registrar’s Office may request additional documentation at that item such as course descriptions, syllabi, and instructor credentials.

Transfer Credits (what to take?)

Often, potential and incoming students are curious about what specific courses they should complete and transfer to C of O. We recommend students first look at the College’s general education program requirements and second check for any specific general education courses required for their intended major program of study.  This will give the student a good idea of what courses are needed.  Generally, freshman and sophomore level courses that have a similar name and the same number of credit hours as a course at C of O will transfer in equivalently.  For Example, College Algebra and Public Speaking will likely transfer to C of O as College Algebra and Public Speaking. You may also use our Transfer Equivalency Guides to get an idea for how courses transfer in from other institutions. These are not an exhaustive list and are subject to change.  Please keep in mind major specific courses and upper-division courses are more likely to transfer in as elective credit rather a direct equivalency.

Additional information regarding transferring courses may be found in the Transferring Courses section of the College catalog.  This information includes the following: transferring English composition courses, School of the Ozarks credit, current students seeking approval to transfer courses, military credit, transfer credit time limitations, and transferring an Associate of Arts degree.
