Career Center

Position Title:

Career Center Associate

Required Schedule Flexibility

(1-5 scale with 5 as most flexible): 3

Job Description:

The Career Center Associate is dedicated to engaging with students and alumni; equipping them with the skill sets that will empower them to discover and understand what they have to offer the world.  The Career Center  operates 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday and is located on the 2nd floor of the Berger Building.

Primary duties and responsibilities:

Maintain a professional image and adhere to the Career Center dress code,
Assist the Career Center Director in the overall operation of the Career Center,
Assist students and graduates: prepare résumés and cover letters; research employers and careers; advise and inform students about career assessments; research internships; use College Central Network and other internet sources,
Daily process-post full-time, seasonal and part-time job opportunities and internships,
Daily process mail,
Schedule career counseling appointments for the Director,
Maintain and update the Career Center calendar of events,
Phone usage and etiquette is professional and calls are responded to within 24 hours,
Report any safety concerns and/or items in need of repair to direct report.

Secondary duties and responsibilities:

Keep all areas of the Career Center clean, organized and safe,
Plan, prepare, and coordinate Career Center activities,
Maintain and update Career Center bulletin boards,
Coordinate and help prepare career class assignments,
Assist in compiling reports,
Assist with the Career Center's social media sites,
Prepare, disseminate, and file documents,
Perform additional duties assigned.

Basic Qualifications:

Professional image and ability to provide assistance,
Above average writing skills,
Ability to use computers, word processing, spreadsheets, reports, Access, Print Shop, Excel, and Internet social media,
Participate in a formal and on-the-job training program which involves reading and understanding manuals, periodicals, publications, preparing reports, and doing research,
Maintain confidentiality of all information,
Ability to work under pressure and under stressful conditions,
Ability to establish and maintain harmonious, team-working relationships with others,
Be a self-starter, the ability and willingness to prioritize, and to organize work,
Coordinate assignments with individuals within and outside department,
Be detail oriented, take pride in work, and accomplish tasks properly,
Career Center Associates must be able to work, stoop, kneel, push and pull objects, climb stairs, lift objects up to 30 pounds, climb step ladders, organize materials effectively, operate computers, printers, scanners, copy machines, vacuum cleaners, calculators, and other office machines as required.

Additional Remarks

Candidates are required to fill out an application with the Career Center and go through the interview process.

The student will:
Maintain and present a professional appearance and attitude while assisting visitors to Career Center,
Learn and use professional phone and e-mail etiquette while responding to all inquiries within 24 hours,
Respect and observe confidentiality,
Demonstrate a basic knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and LinkedIn,
Interact respectfully with fellow workers and staff/faculty,
Adhere to schedule, be prompt and make arrangements with supervisor for schedule changes,
Maintain a safe and clean work environment,
Work Independently as well as with a team,
Maintain the highest quality of work in all assigned tasks,
Take responsibility for one's actions with integrity.
