School of the Ozarks 2026 graduate Oliver Mutrux accepts his appointment to West Point Military Academy for the incoming fall semester.
POINT LOOKOUT, MO — School of the Ozarks 2026 graduate Oliver Mutrux accepted his appointment to West Point Military Academy for the incoming fall semester.
West Point is a prestigious military academy that trains attendees to become commissioned officers of the United States Army. The admissions process is highly selective, involving a physical fitness test, a medical evaluation, recommendation letters, leadership assessments, and congressional nominations. Mutrux was nominated by U.S. Senator Josh Hawley and U.S. Representative Eric Burlison.
Mutrux credits his education at School of the Ozarks for preparing him for his acceptance at West Point. At School of the Ozarks, students learn to be citizens of Christlike character who are well-educated, hardworking, and patriotic.
Mutrux began at S of O in the first grade. Through the school’s classical Christian curriculum, he experienced the values of Christian faith, academic excellence, patriotism, and character development in the classroom. Mutrux’ s dedication to the Lord and the country is a continuation of excellence that School of the Ozarks seeks to promote in its students.
“Through S of O, I've been able to work hard and do it for God’s glory, not my own,” Mutrux said. “I think having that mindset really helped me work hard to achieve this.”
In addition to his education, Mutrux has a family legacy of service. His grandfather served in the Navy during the Vietnam War and his great grandfather gave his life in the Korean War. Those examples of service helped inform his understanding of duty and sacrifice.
While he is currently exploring possible academic paths, he is considering studies in engineering or mathematics — fields that complement West Point’s rigorous academic environment. Mutrux is excited for the courses that will push him to grow into an even stronger leader and servant than he already proves to be.
“I think the life of service is just really close to me,” he said. “The definition of a man that's found in the Bible really points to serving others.”
Before Mutrux leaves for West Point, New York, in the fall, he will be spending six weeks at Cadet Basic training beginning the last week of June. From there, he will spend the next four years earning a quality education that will lead him to graduate as a commissioned officer.
In addition to his acceptance to West Point, Mutrux was also accepted into the Naval Academy, a rare accomplishment. He graduated S of O as Valedictorian and earned the 2026 Terrence R. Dake Outstanding Senior Patriot Award.
School of the Ozarks alumnus Jack Carswell graduated from West Point in 2025, continuing the School’s tradition of service that also includes alumna Emilee Rowe who graduated from the Air Force Academy in 2026. She is now entering flight school.
