Public invited to experience old-fashioned grist mill, Stained Glass and Candle Shop, and more

POINT LOOKOUT, MO. — College of the Ozarks will showcase its student-made products during a fall Open House on Saturday, Oct. 5, from 1:30 to 4 p.m.

The Open House is free and open to the public.

Guests will receive a postcard at their first destination. At their final destination, the guest will have the opportunity to use the completed card as entrance into a raffle to win a gift box of student-made products valued at $55.

The event will feature the College’s Beulah I. Winfrey Keeter Center Gift Shop, Stained Glass and Candle Shop, Fruitcake and Jelly Kitchen, and Edwards Mill. The Ralph Foster Museum will be open, and admission is $8 for adults, $6 for senior adults, $5 for Veterans, and high school age and under are free.

At each location, guests may try refreshments made from student-made products, hear firsthand from students about their experiences working at Hard Work U.®, and see items perfect for this year’s gift giving.

New products will be showcased, and activities will include free samples, demonstrations, and prizes. Guests will have the opportunity to feed the beautiful swans at Lake Honor, discover the history of the Ozarks in the Ralph Foster Museum, sample hand-made treats, and shop for student-made gifts at the Beulah I. Winfrey Keeter Center Gift Shop.

“We are excited to showcase this season our new and improved student-made products,” said Kiley Hutcheson, retail operations manager. “Our fruit spreads are now packed with four times the flavor and are the shining stars of endless recipes. Our new line of milled goods are a staple in any pantry. You must come by and give them a try. Our students are always willing to share their stories during your visit, and you will quickly see the heart behind our products.”

Guests are encouraged to participate in demonstrations at different locations of the event. At the Fruitcake and Jelly Kitchen, student workers will be preparing the College’s famous fruitcake, along with apple butter and fruit spreads. Edwards Mill will showcase students grinding corn meal and flour on the old-fashioned grist mill and hand-weaving baskets. Guests interested in the creation of intricate stained glass pieces and production of soy-blend candles are welcome to visit the Stained Glass and Candle Shop.

The public may visit our website at store.cofo.edu to purchase student-made items.
