POINT LOOKOUT, MO. — On Sunday, April 21, at 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., the College of the Ozarks Chorale will offer music and lead worship at Kings Way United Methodist Church in Springfield, Missouri. At 5 p.m., the students will present a concert including Requiem by Heather Sorenson.

“A requiem is a mass written to honor those who have passed away,” said Dr. Nathan Cornelius, adjunct professor of music. “This specific requiem has been written in memory and honor of those lost during the Covid pandemic that began in 2020. The College of the Ozarks Chorale is the first ensemble in Missouri to have the honor of performing this new requiem that was just released to the public in the fall of 2023.”

Willaims Memorial Chapel Performance

On Thursday, April 25, 2024, College of the Ozarks Chorale will also perform Requiem in the Williams Memorial Chapel at 7:30 p.m. The concert is free and open to the public. No tickets are required upon entry; however, seating is offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

“We are very excited to have the opportunity to learn and perform a brand-new composition that has not yet been performed in our area,” Cornelius said. “This piece is emotional with the fourth movement also including aleatoric prayer as a part of the performance. The requiem also includes parts for a chamber orchestra, and we are happy to be able to offer the opportunity to perform for some of the string players on our campus.
