POINT LOOKOUT, MO. — The College of the Ozarks Chorale is hosting a concert open to students, faculty, and staff on April 29 at 7 p.m.

The event will be socially distanced in the Williams Memorial Chapel, with a maximum seating of 90 audience members. For those unable to attend, the College of the Ozarks Music Department Facebook page will livestream the event.

The concert will feature a variety of composers. Two students will have the opportunity to direct the College Chorale during two songs. Spencer Fleury, senior vocal music education major, will direct “Holy Water,” and Bailey Payne, senior vocal music education major, will direct “Go Not Far from Me, O God.”

“I have been blessed with this unique experience to get a small band together and play piano for this piece,” Fleury said. “Compared to our choral repertoire, this song is completely different. It is a chance for us to have fun worshipping and singing different genres of music.”

Jerry Scott, college chorale director, has led his students through the past year during the pandemic. The spring concert is the College Chorale’s first chance to perform since the College had to close last March.

“I really appreciate the opportunity to lead the Chorale, as it gives me experience leading a group of peers in a safe environment,” said Payne. “Mr. Scott has given me valuable feedback and instruction as I worked with the choir on this piece.”
