Military Science

1. Brigadier General James Schreffler received his commission through ROTC in 1991 upon graduating from Benedictine College in Atchison, KS. Initially branched into the Army Chemical Corps, he received a branch transfer to Aviation after completing flight training at Ft. Rucker, AL in 1995. Throughout his career, BG Schreffler has held numerous positions at the company, battalion and brigade level.

BG Schreffler’s deployments include to Kosovo (2008) as the KFOR J3 Air - Chief of Helicopter Operations, Afghanistan (2013) as commander of Aviation TF Reaper in RC-North, and most recently to the Middle East (2019/20) as commander of the 1107th Theater Aviation Sustainment Maintenance Group in support of Operation Spartan Shield.

BG Schreffler is a senior aviator and is qualified in the UH-1 Iroquois, AH-1 Cobra, AH-64 Apache, and UH-60 Blackhawk helicopters.

He has been employed by CofO since 2003 and serves as the Assistant Adjutant General-Army for the Missouri National Guard.

Captain Caleb Dunnam has served as an Assistant Professor of Military Science and Patriotic Education at the College of the Ozarks since 2015. He is a College of the Ozarks alumnus and was commissioned as an Aviation Officer in the Missouri Army National Guard through ROTC in 2008. He began his military career with the 1-135th Attack Reconnaissance Battalion, was assigned as an AH-64D Apache pilot, and was reassigned to fly the UH-60 Blackhawk in 2017. CPT Dunnam had multiple assignments during his Aviation career, including a combat assignment as a platoon leader in Afghanistan, and has served as a staff officer and company commander.

In 2021, he transferred from Army Aviation to the Army Chaplain Corps. He currently serves as an operational battalion chaplain with the Missouri Army National Guard in addition to his full-time responsibilities with the College of the Ozarks Military Science Program.
