Faculty Services Student Worker/Administrative Assistant

The Faculty Services student worker’s main priority is to serve the professors in the Jones Building in whatever capacity that they might need. We are open from 8 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday. It is also the information center for all activities occurring in the Jones Building. One Faculty Services student worker also monitors the Jones computer Lab from 6pm - 10 pm, Monday through Thursday. The main departments that are served include: English, History, Art, Bible and Theological Studies, Foreign Language, Family Studies and Social Services, Writing Center and Theater. Faculty Services student workers may also serve as essay reviewers to mark and code errors for composition students.
Primary duties and responsibilities:
Accurately type documents—syllabi, tests, handouts, etc.,
Make copies of C of O related material for faculty and staff only,
Grade objective sections of quizzes and exams,
Run general errands for faculty and supervisor,
Greet all visitors,
Answer the telephone, transfer calls, and take messages when necessary, with proper office etiquette,
Proctor/Monitor tests for professors,
Shred confidential material,
Use office equipment properly—computer, copier, scanner, etc.,
Utilize standard Windows Microsoft Office programs—Word, Excel,
File all documentation in an organized, effective manner,
Pick up and deliver mail,
Accurately review and code errors on compositions to help students improve essential writing skills,
Maintain total confidentiality.
Secondary duties and responsibilities:
Clean the Faculty Services office, kitchenette, and the Jones Computer Lab,
Monitor printer, paper and ink levels in the Jones Computer Lab.
Demonstrate proper and professional office etiquette,
Work with others as a team to accomplish tasks together,
Be able to type and have good computer skills,
Have good grammar and writing skills,
Be dependable, honest, and trustworthy,
Display an eagerness to serve.

The student will:
Learn and follow all policies and procedures of the Faculty Services office and develop workplace loyalty,
Develop appropriate telephone and office ettiquette,
Develop and use effective communication skills with faculty, staff, and visitors,
Understand and model appropriate wrok attire and display positive work habits,
Interact respectfully with co-workers and promote a positive atmosphere inthe Faculty Serivces office,
Master grammatical and effective writing skills in order to assist composition students,
Continually strive to improve both personally and professionally while working both independently and with a team,
Adhere to an assigned work schedule with promptness, initiative, and prior notice regarding any unforeseen schedule change,
Develope a professional mentality and composure while serving faculty members, especially when proctoring classes when they must be absent.
