Child Development Center

Position Title:

Classroom Teacher/Worker

Required Schedule Flexibility

(1-5 scale with 5 as most flexible): 1

Job Description:

The Child Development Center is open Monday through Friday, 7 am to 6 pm twelve months of the year.  The Child Development Center is a licensed child care center that operates for children of the faculty and staff, then opens to the community. The children range in age from two to six.

Primary duties and responsibilities:

Always be on time so others can get to class,
Find a replacement before you ask for time off,
Teach children in the classroom with other student workers,
Help with maintenance of the facility (bathrooms, kitchen, cleaning, scrubbing, pulling weeds, etc.).

Secondary duties and responsibilities:

Help with Christmas program, special appearances of the children,
Paint and repair work.

Basic Qualifications:

Enjoy working with children and be very dependable,
Able to lift at least 45 pounds, because of the children, toys, etc.,
Able to work with cleaning supplies (chemicals),
Enjoy outdoor activities in summer heat and winter cold,
Able to do physical activities with the children (bending, sitting on floor, etc.).

Desirable Qualifications:

Patience and a pleasant personality; not afraid to be a role model,
Able to communicate with parents on a daily basis,
Follow instructions on daily lesson plans for the classrooms,
Accept responsibility for your actions with the children.

Additional Remarks

The Child Development Center is a unique work station on campus. You must come in for an interview to have your name submitted to the Dean of Work for this work station.  You will also be required to have a current TB test, (at our hospital), and screened for Child Abuse and Neglect (forms in our office).

Learning Objectives:

The student will:
Learn policies and procedures of caring for children,
Provide a healthy, safe, and secure environment for children,
Work independently with children and parents,
Work together as a team with fellow student workers,
Be well organized and productive,
Develop outstanding written and oral communication,
Be required to be a mandated reporter for any child abuse/neglect,
Exercise confidentiality.
