Art Gallery

Position Title:

Lab Assistant

Required Schedule Flexibility

(1-5 scale with 5 as most flexible): 4

Job Description:

Monday through Thursday:  8 am – 10 pm, Friday:  8 am – 5 pm
Saturday:  1 pm – 5 pm, and Sunday:  1 pm – 10 pm

Primary duties and responsibilities:

Assist the Gallery Director with planning and implementing exhibitions,
Set lights,
Install artwork,
Clean the gallery,
Wall prep and painting,
Create and place gallery labels,
Acquire and set up multimedia,
Assist with print and radio ads,
Communicate with vendors,
Communicate with the community about gallery events,
Communicate/liaison with artists,
Communicate and coordinate with the steno-pool administrative assistant,
Maintain a gallery mail database,
Assist the director with student attendance records for lectures and workshops,
Keep and adhere to the gallery calendar,
Assist the director with the grant-writing process.

Secondary duties and responsibilities:

Assist with standard Art Department tasks as needed.

Basic Qualifications:

Ability to see what needs to be done and to do it without being told,
Willingness to work nights and weekends,
Basic typing,
Word, Excel skills preferred,
Basic to intermediate computer skills required,
Ability to think critically and problem solve,
Good interpersonal communication,
Self-managing (able to work and complete tasks without direct supervision),
Good writing skills, i.e. grammar and sentence structure,
Willingness to tackle unfamiliar and new tasks (each exhibit is different),
Knowledge and adeptness at using software in Adobe Creative Suite, small hand tools, mat cutter, power tools, and photography equipment (or willingness to learn).

Desirable Qualifications:

Sense of humor,
Graphic design skills a plus,
Creativity a plus.
