Job Description:
The Student Officers work with the Public Safety Staff Officers and strive to provide a safe and secure campus for the College family and visitors. They are scheduled to work shifts which usually range from two to five hours in length. They also work major convocations and graduation.
Primary duties and responsibilities:
General patrol of the campus (both vehicle and foot patrol),
Lock and/or unlock campus buildings on a set schedule,
Lock and/or unlock facilities according to facilities permits,
Enforce College rules and regulations pertaining to parking and traffic,
Work parking and traffic control for large functions,
Work vehicle accidents and incidents that occur on College property.
Secondary duties and responsibilities:
All Student Officers are required to work major convocations, graduation, and other major events held on campus.
Basic Qualifications:
Must be physically able to perform their duties (walking, climbing stairs, lifting heavy objects, etc.),
Honest, dependable, neat and must adhere to the work schedule,
Be able to handle stressful situations,
Typing and computer skills.
Desirable Qualifications:
Criminal Justice major,
Good personality,
Ability to work with others,
Ability to follow instructions,
Ability to remain calm when working with angry or unruly people.

Become familiar with the policies and procedures which govern their actions,
Understand the philosophy of the Public Safety Department and the role it fills on campus,
Increase their decision-making skills as their experience grows,
Remain aware of the responsibility their work assignment places on them,
Understand the need to protect confidential information they may be privy to,
Display a strong work ethic by becoming a "self-starter",
Develop proficient radio communication skills; to enable the student to interact with Pubic Safety staff as well as other radio users on campus,
Develop their service skills; understand that they serve the campus citizens and visitors,
Learn how to interact respectfully with fellow workers and promote a positive atmosphere in the work place,
Become familiar with rotating shifts and the need to follow the posted schedule,
Develop the skills necessary to write detailed and accurate reports,
Continually strive to improve both personally and professionally,
Handle emergency situations in a calm and professional manner,
Ability to work independently, as well as with a team,
Understand the necessary role they play in ensuring campus safety,
Understand the necessary role they play in enforcing campus regulations through the issuance of tickets.
