Our goal is to provide a safe and healthy environment conducive to effective student growth and awareness of the five-fold mission of the College through servant leadership.
Primary duties and responsibilities:
Assist the Hall Director with issues concerning the dorm, its residents, and guests,
Enforce College rules and regulations concerning the residence hall,
Assist and guide students with dorm policies and general regulations on campus,
Conduct fair and consistent room checks once a week as outlined by the “Room Check Policy” guidelines given by each Hall Director,
Assist the Hall Directors at convocations by arriving 30 minutes before the convocation is scheduled to begin and staying to collect convocation cards at the conclusion of the program,
Escort workers to their prospective place in the building and stay with them while completing a work order,
Assist Hall Directors at various campus-wide activities and programs. This includes decorating, set-up, and clean-up at these events,
Conduct at least one program and one activity for the residents within the residence hall or in a collaborative effort with another residence hall for all students residing in those residence halls,
Schedule and work at least 12 hours per week in the Resident Assistant Office,
Work weekends when scheduled,
Conduct mail runs at least twice a day and distribute mail to student boxes located in the residence hall,
Answer phones, take and post messages, notices, and work statements,
Clean and organize the Resident Assistant Office,
Assist with resident check-in and checkout procedures,
Create bulletin boards and door decorations for the halls,
Perform the role of mediator, counselor, authority figure, and friend to all residents.
Secondary duties and responsibilities:
Assist the maintenance staff with cleaning and organizing the various areas within the residence hall.
Ability to maintain confidentiality involving student issues,
Ability to communicate effectively,
Honest, dependable, organized, and efficient,
Fair and consistent in dealing with residents and fellow staff members in the residence hall,
Self-motivated with a positive attitude,
Ability to remain calm under pressure, especially when emergencies occur within the residence hall,
Ability to multi-task,
Available for the residents at most anytime.
Patience with resident issues and concerns.
Please note that each residence hall is different and that the above R.A. description is a generic one. Some differences will apply and are subjective in nature. Each Hall Director reserves the right to add to or subtract from any of the above items as best accommodates the residents of his/her residence hall.
The student will:
Learn how to assist visitors to the residence hall in a professional, responsible, and mature manner,
Achieve knowledge in assisting residents in a professional, responsible, and mature manner,
Gain perspectives on the values, ideas, and opinions of various personality types, both on the floor they reside on and in the workplace,
Be consistent and fair in their enforcement of College rules and regulations concerning the residence halls,
Conduct fair and consistent room checks once a week as outlined by the "Room Check Policy" guidelines given by each hall director,
Perform, with excellence, all primary and secondary duties as explained in the handbook.
