Job Description:
The Outlook student workers organize, publish, and distribute the student newspaper. The Outlook reports on most events on campus as well as publishing editorials, student columns, and student, faculty and staff submissions. The responsibilities of the four student workers are as follows:
Primary duties and responsibilities:
The primary duties and responsibilities of the editor are:
Responsible to the advisor for production of the publication,
Supervise the activities of the other student publication personnel,
Make assignments on a weekly basis for stories, pictures, and layout of the publication,
Edit and proofread all copies submitted by staff for publication,
Ensure deadlines are met with the Print Shop to produce the publication on schedule.
The primary duties and responsibilities of the staff writers (2) are:
Responsible to editor and advisor for assisting in planning, writing, photographing, and editing the weekly publication to meet production schedule,
Assist in editing and proofreading all copies submitted by staff,
Assist in preparing copy for Print Shop to produce publication on schedule,
Work on specific and special projects as assigned by the editor and/or advisor.
The primary duties and responsibilities of the sports writer are:
Responsible to editor and advisor for assisting in planning, photographing, and writing weekly publications to meet production schedule,
Responsible to report on the weekly College home or away games,
Assist in preparing copies for Print Shop to produce publication on schedule,
Work on special projects as assigned by the editor and/or advisor.
Secondary duties and responsibilities:
Vacuum, dust, basic cleaning of office, recycle newspapers, file newspapers,
Occasionally work on special events.
Basic Qualifications:
Good writing and knowledge of English language,
Computer skills—we use Photo Shop and InDesign and will train accordingly,
Interview skills,
Able to think of stories and topics to write for an article.

Ability to work with others,
Ability to communicate well, both verbally and written.
