Nursing Department

Position Title:

McDonald Nursing Learning Lab Student Worker

Required Schedule Flexibility

(1-5 scale with 5 as most flexible): 3

Job Description:

The McDonald Simulation Learning Centers. Student worker will assist the Simulation and Learning Technology Coordinator in the daily operations of the McDonald SLC.

Primary duties and responsibilities:

Exhibit dependability, loyalty, honesty, and the ability to respect and maintain confidentiality in various situations,
Assist in the preparation of simulation demonstrations for classes and/or visitors as needed,
Provide general supervision of lab during room usage for classes and open lab hours,
Prioritize assigned tasks,
Professional communication skills,
Assist Simulation and Learning Technology Coordinator in maintaining cleaning, organizing, inventories, and orders of lab equipment and supplies,
Operate and maintain simulation equipment (under supervision of Simulation and Learning Technology Coordinator),
Demonstrate word processing, database/spreadsheet, presentational graphics, and other pertinent computer skills,
Clean SLC, locker rooms, bathrooms and faculty office,
Assist/tutor both pre- and enrolled nursing students in A&P, chemistry, microbiology, informatics, math calculations, nursing courses, nursing skills, and ADAM tutorials,,
Van Pick up/drop off,
Pre-nursing functional assessment testing.

Basic Qualifications:

General office skills (information processing, filing, phone, etc.),
Computer knowledge (the ability to use various software applications such as the Microsoft Office Suite).

Desirable Qualifications:

Pleasant personality,
Ability to work with others,
Attention to detail,
Ability to work in fast-paced environment.

Learning Objectives:

The student will:
Learn all aspects, policies and procedures of the Nursing Department,
Develop proficient skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher, and PowerPoint,
Develop professional telephone and office etiquette,
Maintain department inventory,
Develop customer service skills and attitude -- go over and above what is expected to serve and meet people's expectations,
Assist faculty with clinical skills supply preparation,
Develop good interpersonal skills, respectfully interact with co-workers, students, faculty, and staff,
Learn how to keep appropriate matters confidential,
Learn to work independently and as a team,
Adhere to schedule and communicate schedule changes when necessary,
Learn to mentor other students in the nursing program related to coursework and clinical skills.
