Job Description:
Students willbe responsible for all aspects of producing vegetables and fruits for theKeeter Center, Pearl Rogers Dining Center and Fruitcake & Jelly Kitchen.The work involves overseeing our garden work area growing beds, irrigationsystems, hoop houses, and processing area. The majority of the work occursoutside, so students need to be willing to work in all weather conditions. Weproduce and deliver weekly to outlets on campus. Maintenance of horticulture laboratoryarea is also required.
Primary duties and responsibilities:
Planning, transplanting, weeding, watering, tilling, spraying, direct seeding, harvesting,
Handle products, track production,
Deliver products in a timely manner,
Mowing, weedeater operation,
Beekeeping,
Maintain clean spaces,
Lift a variety of materials,
Host campus guests and visitors,
Work in Excel,
Small garden tractor operation and maintenance,
UTV operation and maintenance
Secondary duties and responsibilities:
Fill special orders for periodic product needs,
Oversee volunteer workers,
Deal with nuisance pests,
Solve other issues as they arise,
Orchard work,
Assist other Ag workstations as needed
Basic Qualifications:
Capable of lifting 50 pounds
Able to work without direct supervision,
Orderliness, punctuality,
Ability to host large or small groups of people for tours,
Respect for others
Desirable Qualifications:
Experience with plant care,
Interest in pursuing new production methods and species,
Capable to adapt to changes in priorities

Learning Objectives:
The student will:
Become knowledgeable about vegetable production practices
Demonstrate competency in production, management, and delivery of vegetables to campus outlets
Operate rototillers, irrigation systems, hand tools, department automobiles, tractors, power tools, garden production equipment
Learn punctuality and communication skills
Comfortably welcome and talk with guests on the garden
Operate a safety-oriented workplace
Maintain cleanliness in the garden
Handle all produce, practicing proper food safety protocols
Learn the importance of being punctual and ability to complete and show improvement in various farm duties and chores assigned by the agronomy supervisor,
Strive to perform all tasks adequately with attention to detail and in a timely manner,
Strive to cooperate and work as a team, not just with each other, but also with other Agriculture or campus work stations,
Exhibit the ability to maintain a clean, safe and orderly work environment at all farms.
