The objectives for the major emphases in health, physical education, and recreation are that students will:
The department offers degree programs for students with a goal of teaching in secondary or elementary physical education. The department also offers degree programs for students who do not want to teach. A student may select an Exercise Science or Recreation Administration major within the Physical Education degree program. The department also offers a minor in Coaching.

Head Volleyball Coach Stacy Muckenthaler has been a part of the physical education department and coaching staff at College of the Ozarks since 2010. Muckenthaler earned her B.S. degree in Health and Wellness from College of the Ozarks and her Master’s of Education in Athletics/Activities Administration from William Woods University. Starting as an adjunct professor and assistant volleyball coach, Muckenthaler is now an Assistant Professor of Physical Education and the head volleyball coach since 2013.

Dr. Don Hoeck joined the faculty at College of the Ozarks in 1998 after serving at Oklahoma Wesleyan University for five years. His academic focus has been in the areas of Preventive and Rehabilitative Cardiovascular Health, Human Performance and Physical Education Pedagogy. In addition to classroom instruction, he has served in administrative roles as department head, division chair, and coach. He has worked collegiately as a women’s basketball, women’s volleyball, and men’s and women’s golf coach.

Head Baseball Coach Neale Richardson has been a part of the physical education department and coaching staff at College of the Ozarks since 2014. Richardson earned his B.S. degree in Education and a M.S. in Education with an emphasis in Physical Education from Missouri State University. He also has a M.A. in Educational Administration from Lindenwood University. Richardson served in public education for 29 years as a coach, P.E. teacher, athletic director, assistant principal, and a high school principal before coming to College of The Ozarks.

Dr. Turbak joined the College as an adjunct instructor and head athletic trainer in summer 1995. He became a full faculty member in fall 2005. Dr. Turbak earned a terminal degree at Nova Southeastern University in Health Science. He is certified by the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) and is a licensed athletic trainer in the state of Missouri since 1986. In addition, he is a volunteer instructor for the American Red Cross teaching courses in First Aid/CPR/AED and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer. Dr. Turbak serves as co-coordinator of the department’s student supervised internship and practice experiences.

Coach Becky Mullis began teaching in the physical education department at College of the Ozarks in 2003 as an adjunct professor before becoming an Associate Professor of Physical Education in 2008. She completed her undergraduate degree in Secondary Education and Physical Education at College of the Ozarks and M.S. at Missouri State University in Education/Physical Education. Coach Mullis served as assistant women’s basketball coach for eleven seasons and was promoted to head coach in March of 2014.
