Edward Wilson, Vietnam Veteran, chosen to receive True American Hero Award

POINT LOOKOUT, MO. — On Friday, Nov. 9, 2018, the MOZARK Chapter, Military Officers Association of America (MOAA), will present the True American Hero Award to Vietnam Veteran Edward Wilson at College of the Ozarks.

The presentation will take place during a student assembly between 9:30 and 10:30 a.m. in the Royal Oak Forum at The Keeter Center. This program is free and open to the public.

Colonel John Hathcock, U.S. Army (Ret.), president of MOZARK Chapter (MOAA), will present the award to Wilson.

Wilson is the 22nd recipient of the True American Hero Award.  During his six years serving in the Navy, he was awarded the Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry Medal. Wilson then enlisted in the Army, serving from 1984 to 1998. Since then, in 2005, he served as the assistant executive director of Operation Welcome Home for Vietnam Veterans. He helped complete this event for more than 50,000 Vietnam Veterans, and served as the Charter Commander of the Disabled Americans Veterans Chapter 68 in Branson, Missouri.

Currently, Wilson is the service officer director for the Veterans and Military Coalition of the Ozarks and uses his free time to coordinate events through Big Cedar Lodge for Memorial Day, Fourth of July, 9/11, and Veterans Day.

The True American Hero Award was established in 1997 by the MOZARK Chapter, Military Officers Association of America, Branson, Missouri. The purpose of this award is to recognize local individuals who have honorably served or are currently serving in any branch of the uniformed services. In addition, they must have contributed significant volunteer time and effort to the recognition of Branson and the community as the home of the American Veteran.
