SUBJECT: COLLEGE OF THE OZARKS PRESENTS “INTO THE WOODS”
By: Ashley Bench
College of the Ozarks departments of theatre and music will present the spring musical, “Into the Woods,” at 7:30 p.m., on March 1, 2, 4 and 5. A Sunday matinee will begin at 2:30 p.m., on March 3.
In production for over 20 years, “Into the Woods” intertwines the plots of several Brothers Grimm fairy tales, with music and lyrics written by Stephen Sondheim. Based on the novel by James Lapine, the storyline explores the consequences of the characters’ wishes and quests. The musical is tied together by a story involving a baker and his wife.
C of O junior Matt Matney will play the part of the baker, a man who sets out on a journey to begin a family, but experiences various trials before he achieves his desired end. “This musical has a fantastic moral message that speaks to every cast and audience member, reminding us that we are not alone,” said Matney. “The main moral concept encapsulates that we will never find contentment in a ‘happily ever after’ or in waiting for what is next.”
Regular adult tickets are $15. Tickets for senior citizens are $13; non-C of O students are $13 and children 12 and under are $11. C of O Associates will receive free admission to one performance upon presentation of their Associates Card. Up to two guests of Associates are $5. The box office only accepts cash or check.
This production is open to the public and requires advance ticket reservations by calling the Theatre Box Office at (417) 690-2626.
