SUBJECT: NFL QUARTERBACK LEGEND JAY SCHROEDER TO SPEAK AT COLLEGE OF THE OZARKS

By: Matt Fender

Jay SchroederOn January 15, College of the Ozarks will host former NFL quarterback Jay Schroeder, who will share about his personal walk with the Lord, as well as adversity that he has faced.

Schroeder enjoyed success during his NFL career, but he also encountered many obstacles. In addition to his challenges on the field, Schroeder was tested off the field by an unexpected discovery of a brain tumor in his then 6-year-old son C.J. Thankfully, C.J. experienced a miraculous healing, which provides for a wonderful story on family values, priorities and the power of prayer.

“I am really excited to listen to a former professional football player,” said Blake Boatwright, a College of the Ozarks junior.  “I am a big football fan, and I can’t wait to hear some of his stories from when he was in the league.”

Schroeder was a quarterback in the National Football League for 11 years and retired in 1994. He played college ball at UCLA in 1980, before he was chosen in the third round of the NFL draft in 1984, by the Washington Redskins.

Schroeder's first NFL game experience came in 1985, when starting quarterback Joe Theisman's leg was brutally broken during a game against the New York Giants. He finished the year as the starter and the next year he passed for over 4,000 yards enroute to the Pro Bowl. Schroeder started 10 league games for the 1987 Super Bowl Champion Redskins.

This convocation is free and open to the public.  Students receive priority seating; remaining seats are available to the public.  For more information, please contact the Public Relations office at (417) 690-2212 or e-mail pr@cofo.edu
