Subject: Branson Veterans Task Force Presents Donation to School of the Ozarks Pitch in for Patriots Club

Branson Veterans Task Force presents check to S of O Pitch in for Patriots ClubThe Christmas season is a time of giving, so it was a natural choice for the Branson Veterans Task Force (BVTF) to present a generous gift to the School of the Ozarks Pitch in for Patriots ™ Club a couple of weeks before Christmas.  The BTVF co-chairman Barbara Riggle and chairperson Brenda Meadows presented a check for $1,046.28 to the Pitch in for Patriots Leadership Committee.

The BVTF raised the money by offering American flags, provided at no cost by Mr. J. Metzger of Weiser Tent Rental, for a donation of any amount, during the Branson Veterans Homecoming Week. After the successful fundraiser, BVTF voted to donate the money to Pitch in for Patriots™.

“The gift could not have come at a more appropriate time, because the club had the opportunity to give to Wreaths Across America, which had reported a severe shortfall in wreath donations to decorate the graves of our nation’s heroes,” said S of O Headmaster Brad Dolloff.

To reinforce the Patriotic Goal of College of the Ozarks and its laboratory high school, School of the Ozarks, the high school students created a club called "Pitch in for Patriots™." By "pitchin’ in" money, support, and time, S of O students want to make a positive difference in the lives of Veterans and hope to inspire others to do the same.

As their first project, the club helped the local Branson Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 913 with money they collected during the College’s annual Honor America celebration held on campus June 30. The donations went to Chapter 913’s Veterans Assistance fund, which provides funds to help struggling Veterans with needs such as gas money for visits to the doctor at the Veterans Hospital, utility bills, and wheelchair ramps.

“It is because of individuals and groups, such as the Branson Veterans Task Force, that enable Pitch in for Patriots to honorably ‘serve those who have served,’” said Wiley Woodward, an S of O senior and member of the Pitch in for Patriots Leadership Committee.

Earlier in the fall the Pitch in for Patriots™ club collected items to send to a faculty member and his battalion, currently serving in the Middle East. The club also held a Fun Run to raise funds for a project, which was inspired by Mr. Bill O’Reilly. The students raised, along with generous donors, pulled together funds to purchase a TrackChair for disabled Missouri Veteran Staff Sergeant Daniel Barnes.

The students hope "Pitch in for Patriots™" serves as model for other high school and college students around the country who want to start a club on their campuses.

The Branson Veterans Task Force is a 501 (c)(3) organization with a mission of recognizing veterans, fostering patriotism and educating the community on the accomplishments and the history of our Veterans.
