SUBJECT: C OF O STUDENT NAMED FINALIST FOR “NURSING STUDENT OF THE YEAR”
The Springfield News-Leader Media Group named College of the Ozarks nursing student Joanna Good “Honorable Mention for Nursing Student of the Year.” The Missouri State Board of Nursing reviewed the nominations from southwest Missouri before selecting the finalists.
The “Nursing Student of the Year” and finalists were announced at the Southwest Missouri Salute to Nurses Luncheon on April 24.
Presently, Good attends the College of the Ozarks Armstrong McDonald School of Nursing and will graduate May 2013 with a Bachelor of Science in nursing. After graduation, she aspires to work in an area hospital in order to gain general experience as an RN.
Good said that nursing became her focus as a result of witnessing a family member’s suffering caused by a chronic illness.
“I yearn to influence the healthcare field by upholding the responsibility and integrity of a nurse by devoting myself to pursuing a service of holistic care,” Good said. “Answering the call to nursing is more than just joining a profession. It is responding to a call for compassionate care, a calling that I choose readily to answer.”
This is the fourth year for the Salute to Nurses event and the fourth year that a College of the Ozarks nursing student has been named a finalist. Good received a $500 cash scholarship for placing honorable mention.
