Beulah I. Winfrey Business Alumni Chapter 11/7/2015

President Kevin Riley called the meeting to order at 11:01 a.m.  The Chapter approved the minutes of the November 1, 2014 meeting.

The Treasurer’s Report showed a balance of $7,155.71 as of November 2014, dues and donations collected of $3,790.00, for a new balance of $10,945.71.  With the $1,000.00 allocated for travel to the Business Undergraduate Society this past academic year, the November 2015 balance is $9,945.71.

The Business Undergraduate Society expressed thanks to alumni members supporting its trip to Kansas City.  The group toured headquarters and met with managers of Tradebot, Perceptive Solutions, and toured the KC Federal Reserve facility.  The Alumni Chapter approved a $1,000.00 donation of funds to the Business Undergraduate Society to support another trip in this academic year.

Emily Emery, business department faculty member, presented an update on the Phi Beta Lambda student group.  The group did well at the state level and had four students qualify for the national competition.

The Sigma Beta Delta honor society had eight inductees last spring.  New members will be inducted in the spring semester along with those business students being recognized with outstanding academic performance.

Kevin Riley expressed appreciation to Jeff Shipley (1999) and Jeremy Braden (2005) for returning to campus to speak to our business students.  Other faculty in attendance included Lindon Newberry, Lana Fowler and Steven Fowler.  Riley also acknowledged former faculty members Rachel Mullinax and Rex Mahlman for attending this year’s Chapter meeting.

Officers for next year will be Robert Wheeler, President, moving up from Vice-President, Jeff Shipley,  Vice-President, moving up from Secretary/Treasurer, and Kevin Riley, Secretary/Treasurer, elected at this meeting.

In new business, a general discussion took place regarding current needs for the Plaster School of Business.  The current officers were charged to review these needs and report to the organization.

Rachel Mullinax made us aware that it had been fifteen years since Dr. Winfrey passed.  The ensuing discussion focused on her 53 years of service to School/College of the Ozarks and her impact across campus.  The meeting was adjourned at 11:25 a.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Kevin Riley, Secretary/Treasurer
