Beulah I. Winfrey Business Alumni Chapter 11/3/2012
President Kevin Riley called the meeting to order at 11:02 a.m. Riley welcomed everyone to the meeting and introductions were made by those present. The Chapter approved the minutes of the November 5, 2011 meeting.
The Treasurer’s Report showed a balance of $5,400.71 as of November 2011, dues and donations collected of $3,363.00, for a new balance of $8763.71. With the $88.00 expense for graduation honor cords for Sigma Beta Delta and $1,000.00 allocated to the Business Undergraduate Society, the November 2012 balance is $7,675.71.
The Business Undergraduate Society expressed thanks to alumni members supporting its trip to St. Louis. The group toured headquarters of Energizer, Brown Shoe Company and Anchor Advertising Agency.
Lindon Newberry presented the SIFE report. SIFE won at regional competition last year and qualified for national competition. With the criteria for competition having been changed over the last several years, CofO has decided to drop its association with SIFE (now known as Enactus). The SIFE team has been very successful for over twenty years. The Business Department faculty is exploring other student group organizations to provide additional opportunities for students.
The Sigma Beta Delta honor society had a need for fifteen honor chords in the amount of $135.00. The Alumni Chapter approved funding of this expense. The Alumni Chapter also approved a $1,000.00 donation of funds to the Business Undergraduate Society to support another trip next semester.
Officers for next year will be Katy Cameron, President, moving up from Vice-President, Jeff Shipley, Vice-President, moving up from Secretary/Treasurer, and Kevin Riley, Secretary/Treasurer, elected at this meeting.
President Riley encouraged membership in the Alumni Chapter and the current Chapter members discussed ways to increase membership numbers.
The meeting was adjourned at 11:27 a.m.
Kevin Riley, Secretary/Treasurer
