The following learning resources are offered to students free of charge in order to aid in the learning process.

Career Center

Days and Times: 8am to 5pm Monday through Friday

Location: Berger building 2nd floor

The Career Center offers assessments for students to evaluate strengths, weaknesses, likes, and dislikes to assist them as they consider possible careers. These assessments can help students who are undecided to determine a major area of study.

Computer Science

Days and Times: 8am to 10pm Monday through Thursday, 8am to 5pm Friday, 2pm to 4pm Saturday

Location: Plaster building room 307 and 209

Computer Science student workers are available to assist students with questions and offer tutoring for Computer Science courses. 

Counseling Center

Days and Times:  9am to 5pm Monday through Friday; Evening hours also available

Location:  Christian Ministries building

You will find the Student Counseling Center provides a variety of objective, nonjudgmental counseling services at no cost to you. The services you receive are the same type you would get visiting a professional counselor or relationship therapist off-campus.

Disability Support

Days and Times:  8am to 5pm Monday through Friday

Location:  McDonald Administration building, Dean of the College office

A disability is a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more life activities.  Students may provide documentation of disability to the Dean of the College office to determine appropriate accommodations.

Engineering Tutoring

Days and Times:  6pm to 9 pm Sunday, Monday, and Wednesday

Location:  White Engineering Computer Lab Room 101

Engineering majors are encouraged to stop by for evening tutoring. 

Foreign Language Lab

Days and Times:  During the school day and most evenings

Location:  Jones building 3rd floor

Students may use any of the ten computers to do foreign language work.  Tutoring is also available for those needing extra help with Spanish courses.

Lyons Memorial Library

Days and Times:  7:30am to 10pm Monday through Thursday; 7:30am to 5pm Friday; 9am to 1pm Saturday; 2pm to 10pm Sunday

The Lyons Memorial Library has three floors that are home to non-fiction and fiction books, databases, periodicals, journals, magazines, newspapers, children’s books, encyclopedias, movies, and various other useful tools for students. Students must have their student ID to check out library materials.

Mathematics Assistance Center

Days and Times:  6pm to 9pm Sunday through Thursday 

Location:  Pfeiffer building room 226

The Math Assistance Center (MAC) offers mathematics and physics tutoring in the evening.  Additionally, students may stop by Pfeiffer room 205 anytime between 7:30am and 5pm to request tutoring.  

Test Taking Strategies and Test Anxiety

The Writing Center

Days and Times:  8am to 7pm Monday through Friday; 9am to 1pm on Saturdays; and 1pm to 5pm on Sundays.  Students should call (417) 690-3439 or drop by the Center to schedule an appointment. The Writing Center cannot accept appointments by email. Wednesdays are "Walk-in Wednesdays."  Walk-in appointments are granted if a writing assistant is available.

The Writing Center offers Reader Response Sessions, 30-minute one-on-one sessions between a student and a peer writing assistant that give the student a chance to discuss his or her writing and receive feedback and suggestions.

Tutoring

More Information:  Course Instructor or Faculty Advisor

Students should attend every class and are encouraged to ask questions, to meet with the instructor at the first indication of trouble, and to seek out study groups. Students are assigned a faculty advisor to whom he or she may also go if further guidance is needed.
