College of the Ozarks welcomes transfer students and tries to make the transition – and transfer of courses – student friendly.  In general, transfer courses from regionally accredited institutions will be accepted by College of the Ozarks.  Courses of a developmental or remedial nature will not be accepted, nor will courses designed for vocational/technical credit.  Not all courses have direct equivalents and may be transferred as elective credit.  Transfer students must complete a minimum of 45 credit hours at College of the Ozarks.  All students must complete at least 36 hours of upper division (300 and 400 level courses).

Associate of Arts

An Associate of Arts degree from a fully accredited college or university will fulfill the General Education requirements at the College of the Ozarks, with the following exceptions:

  1. Six hours of Religion, including REL 343, Biblical Theology and Ethics, are required.  (The lower division course may be transferred to the college, if similar in content and equal in credit to REL 103, Biblical Survey.)
  2. ENG 303, College Composition II and REL 343, Biblical Theology and Ethics are required and will likely need to be taken at College of the Ozarks.
  3. Candidates for the B.S. degree may need additional courses in mathematics, science, or computer science depending upon the courses taken for the AA degree.

Candidates for the B.A. degree will take two courses in one foreign language (6 hours).

Associate degrees other than the Associate of Arts will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

General Education Requirements

College of the Ozarks has 48-55 credit hours of General Education (GE) requirements.  Transfer courses which are equivalent in credit and emphasis to the College’s GE requirements will be accepted.  For example, any three credit literature course in American or World Literature will be accepted as fulfilling the GE literature requirement, and three hour American History course will fulfill the HST 103, American Experience course.  College of the Ozarks does not accept as upper division hours courses from community/technical (two-year) colleges; however some courses may fulfill course requirements but not upper division requirements.  It is most likely that the upper division courses will need to be taken at College of the Ozarks.  Courses that provide lecture and discussion on lifetime fitness and wellness and have an activity component can be transferred as P/M 101, P/M 111 Citizenship and Lifetime Wellness.  In most cases students who have been, or are currently, in the military will not receive transfer credit for P/M 101, P/M 111 but the requirement for the physical education courses will be waived.  Questions concerning transfer courses should be addressed to the college Registrar.

Non GE courses, including majors’ courses and electives

The Registrar evaluates only official transcripts, with input from the appropriate academic departments.  In certain cases the course syllabus will be requested.  The academic department will determine course substitutions and requirements in the major.  If a student believes a transfer course has not been correctly evaluated, an appeal may be made.
