Investopedia
Five sections of thirty students gathered in their regular math classroom to find their professor replaced by SIFE students with stock charts. The students were instructed to create online accounts and form an investment objective based on a personal profile. The game included $100,000 of simulated money to freely invest in the stock market.
Committed to their investment objective, each student competed against their classmates to capture the most market capital. The game gave the students a realistic view of basic investing. Essential investing topics included asset allocation, risk and return, and long-term versus short-term investments.
We required each student to make at least two transactions per week. Each week, COSIFE established a meeting time for financial advising. At the end of the project, students submitted their journals and COSIFE judged the logic behind their decisions to buy and sell. Investopedia created a safe, hands-on learning environment for the students.
At the end of the semester, COSIFE graded investment activity reports and gave each student feedback based on his or her written stock market summary.
