Ethics Convocation

COSIFE targeted global outsourcing in our seventeenth annual ethics convocation. We recruited a panel of experts from a variety of career experiences in communication, manufacturing, farming, and economics. The panel interacted with attendees to introduce an economy where global capability meets personal accountability.

COSIFE presented a multi-media video on the economic and social challenges of global outsourcing. The video allowed students to visualize how companies make the decision to go global. After the convo, 33% of the students changed their opinion on outsourcing. To measure these results, COSIFE distributed polling devices and conducted electronic surveys both before and after the panel discussions. Students became actively involved in the issue and witnessed immediate feedback on how their views compared to others.

One question we asked was, "Should American business outsource jobs to other countries to take advantage of less expensive labor." A student from Harrison, Arkansas stood up to share her experience of global outsourcing. Her father lost his job, and she explained how outsourcing had affected her family and community.

COSIFE chose the panelists, video, and electronic quizzes to rebuild confidence in social responsibility. COSIFE met their goal of challenging students to make their own decisions while remembering the American principles of accountability.
