SUBJECT: COLLEGE OF THE OZARKS TO HOLD BIENNIAL CATTLE PRODUCTION SALE
By: Rebecca Wright
The Agricultural Department at the College of the Ozarks will hold the biennial cattle production sale Saturday, November 28, at 11 a.m. Lunch will be available free of charge beginning at 10:30 a.m. “This sale is a great opportunity for producers to take home quality cattle with outstanding genetics,” said Adam Harms, a student worker at the C of O Beef Farm.
A variety of cattle will be available including Polled Hereford bulls, registered Angus females, registered Hereford females and Crossbred females. Also, several high quality show steer prospects will be sold.
“This year’s sale is especially meaningful for the department as it will be the last for longtime Professor of Agriculture and Beef Farm supervisor Roy Johnson,” said Dan Swearengen, Agriculture Department Head. Dr. Johnson will retire in May and Dr. Bryan Oetting, who currently manages the Dairy Farm, will assume his role as supervisor. Dr. Johnson came to College of the Ozarks in 1972, and has had an integral part in the success of approximately 35 cattle sales at C of O. “I want to say thanks to all the buyers, bidders, and especially the students for making my time here so enjoyable,” Johnson said. “It has been a great 38 years here at College of the Ozarks.”
The sale will be managed by students in the Livestock Merchandising class under Dr. Johnson’s supervision. It will be held in the Sale Barn on the C of O Campus, which is located near the Dairy. For more information, please contact Dr. Roy Johnson at 417-690-3351.
