SUBJECT: C OF O BREAKS GROUND ON MISSOURI VIETNAM VETERANS MEMORIAL
College of the Ozarks will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the Missouri Vietnam Veterans Memorial at noon on Thursday, December 18, on the Alumni Center Lawn.
The Missouri Legislators made this memorial at College of the Ozarks the official Vietnam War Memorial for the state of Missouri, with Missouri Senate Concurrent Resolution 43, which was sponsored by Senator David Sater from Missouri District 29. The resolution was adopted in May.
College of the Ozarks was named an official charity of the Big Cedar Lodge Legends of Golf PGA Champions Tour, presented by Bass Pro Shops, in spring 2014. President Dr. Jerry C. Davis announced Hard Work U will use the donation to fund this memorial.
“We appreciate the generous gift from Bass Pro Shops which will be used to construct an appropriate memorial honoring those from Missouri who served and sacrificed on behalf of our nation,” said Davis.
The Missouri Vietnam Veterans Memorial is another way to further the College’s vision – which is to develop citizens of Christ-like character who are well-educated, hard-working, and patriotic.
“Vietnam Veterans weren’t treated properly upon their return from war. Such a memorial is long overdue and represents a proper tribute to those who served. We are pleased to join with Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 913, friends at Bass Pro Shops, and the PGA Champions Tour in making this a reality,” said Davis.
The memorial is based on an architectural rendering created by College of the Ozarks Alumnus Austin Meyer. The memorial will bear the names of over 1,400 Missourians who served and died in the Vietnam War. C of O students and staff will build the structure, which is projected to be complete by April 2015.
The public is invited to attend. For further information, contact the Public Relations Office at (417) 690-2212.
