College of the Ozarks hosts ceramic artist Sandra Sell for art exhibit, lecture
POINT LOOKOUT, MO. — College of the Ozarks will display the artwork of Sandra Sell from March 25 through April 22, in the Boger Art Gallery. Located inside the Jones Learning Center, the Boger Art Gallery is open to the public Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, 1 to 5 p.m.
In addition to sharing her art, Sell will host a workshop for students from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday, March 26. Later that day, Sell will provide a lecture at 7 p.m., followed by a reception in the Gittinger Music Building Recital Hall. The lecture and reception are open to the public.
Sell’s commitment to her profession as an artist spurs her to continually seek new and creative opportunities.
While continuing her artistic development, Sell served as studio assistant for Stoney Lamar and Brent Skidmore at the Penland School of Craft, North Carolina, and as an apprentice to artist Robyn Horn in Little Rock, Arkansas. Sell is also enthusiastic about sharing her creative process through teaching, demonstrations, and by speaking to art organizations and groups such as the Friends of Contemporary Craft (FOCC), an affiliate group of the Arkansas Arts Center.
“I do a little dance with the tools,” Sell said. “Sometimes wood presents surprises, and that’s part of the process. That’s the nature of art, thousands and thousands of decisions as you go.”
A native of New Hampshire, Sell grew up with a passion for visually emulating nature and constructing objects. Upon completing a career in the military, Sell relocated to Arkansas, where she earned an M.A. in art from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. With experience in drawing, painting, and sculpture, she strives to convey the observations of her emotional responses to life in her work.
