Comprised of members who have a strong interest in breeding, raising and milking Holstein cattle, the Holstein Association USA is the largest breed organization in the world. For the past 50 years College of the Ozarks has been a member of the Holstein Association USA.

“This is a great accomplishment due to the fact that there are not many people in the United States that have been with the Association for this duration of time,” said Assistant Farm Manager Bryan Cizek. “In fact we are one of four dairies that have maintained our association within the state of Missouri for the past 50 years.”

The Holstein Association USA has over 20,000 adult members and 8,000 junior members. As part of the Holstein Association’s job, they rate the quality the milk that the Holstein cows provide. Currently College of the Ozarks has one cow that was rated “excellent,” and 16 rated “very good.” The rest of the lactating herd has been rated at least “good” as far as herd classification is concerned. The College is fortunate to be able to use the best in today’s genetics, with use of artificial insemination.

“College of the Ozarks is considered one of the top college Holstein herds in the United States,” said former Assistant Dairy Manager Tamara Holder. “This has allowed agricultural students to have the experience of participating in the Oklahoma State Holstein Sale, Missouri State Holstein Sale, the Missouri University Sale and the National Holstein Sale.”
