College of the Ozarks Homecoming planned for first weekend in November

POINT LOOKOUT, MO. — College of the Ozarks will kick off Homecoming 2018, themed “Making Memories with U.,” with its annual Miss Hard Work U. Coronation Ceremony on Thursday, Nov. 1, at 7 p.m., in Jones Auditorium.

Homecoming events run through Saturday, Nov. 3, and guests on campus are encouraged to join the students at chapel the following day, Sunday, Nov. 4, at 11 a.m.

Alumni and members of the community are invited to participate in many Homecoming activities, including the 5k Glow Run/Walk hosted on campus, Bobcat basketball, and the traditional C of O parade held on campus Saturday afternoon at 2:15 p.m.

“Our theme this year is Making Memories with U.,” said Alumni Director Angela Williamson. “Personally, some of my fondest memories are from my days as a student at College of the Ozarks, and I know that many other alumni feel the same way. Homecoming is a wonderful time to return to campus to celebrate friendships and honor traditions. It is also a great time to honor some outstanding alumni who are making an impact on their communities, businesses, and the world.”

In order to honor the accomplishments of several notable alumni, the 2018 Meritorious Awards will be presented during the festivities. Those being awarded include William Vancil (’67), Distinguished Achievement Award; MiKaela (Wardlaw) Lemmon (’00), Distinguished Young Alumnus; Clark Vernon (’66 HS), Distinguished Community Service Award; and Cheryl (Cates) Marley (’10), Distinguished Service to College of the Ozarks Award.

Building dedication

The Hook Activities Center will be dedicated on Friday, Nov. 2, at 10:30 a.m. The Hook Activities Center has been named after the late Harold Hook and Joanne Hook. The vision for use of the building is to provide a space (especially for youth in grades K-8) to enjoy educational activities.
