College of the Ozarks will kick off Homecoming 2013, themed “Homecoming@cofoHardworkU #BobcatPride,” with its annual Coronation on Thursday, Oct. 31, at 8 p.m., in Jones Auditorium. Events run through Sunday, Nov. 3. Alumni and the public are invited to participate in and/or observe many activities, including a 5K run/walk, basketball games, student activity booths, the dedication of the new Alumni Veterans memorial and the C of O Homecoming Parade.

This year, the College will dedicate the new Alumni Veterans Memorial on Saturday, Nov.2, at 10 a.m., at the main campus flag pole on the Chapel lawn. This memorial includes the names of all alumni Veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Two additional names, Melvin Smith who attended S of O in 1949 and Anthony Blair, S of O HS Class of ‘63, not listed on the original memorial placed in 1983. In order to add the names, a new, larger memorial had to be built.

“The old memorial had become weathered and did not have room to place the new names,” said Dr. Mullinax Executive Vice President. “The new memorial will better honor those who served our country.”

The C of O Lady Bobcats will take on Ottawa University Fri., Nov. 1, at 7 p.m., and the C of O Men’s Basketball Team will play Southwestern College, Saturday, Nov. 2, at 3:15 p.m., in the Keeter Gymnasium. The public is invited to attend both of these games; tickets may be purchased at the box office. Also on Saturday, the student activity booths open at 10 a.m., and the parade begins at 2 p.m.

“We look forward to the homecoming activities each year,” said sophomore business major Nicole Dilg. “Not only does it allow us to spend time with friends, but is an opportunity to reminisce with C of O alumni.”

The 5K, scheduled for Friday, Nov. 1, at 9:15 p.m., entry fee is $20, and applications are available at For questions on the run/walk, please contact Assistant Professor of Physical Education Don Hoeck at (417) 690-2571.
