POINT LOOKOUT, MO. — College of the Ozarks hosted over 95 organizations during the spring Career Expo on March 27, 2019, hosted in the Howell W. Keeter Gymnasium. This annual event was created to connect students and employers to promote networking, fulfill internships, and obtain full-time career opportunities.
The organizations in attendance included an array of employers and graduate schools located in the Ozarks region. Sarah Williams, career center administrative assistant, said there were approximately 45 alumni in attendance representing various organizations.
“Employers love to come here. Our event is one that provides the type of students the employers want to hire,” Williams said. “Not only do we get to help students, but we also have the opportunity to interact with the community and employers.”
Jacy Snider, C of O alumnus and employee of Ozark Fire Protection District, spoke with students at the event.
“Last year I met with the Ozark Fire Protection District at the career expo,” Snider said. “I was able to express my interest and get to know some of the employees. They were able to show me what I needed to apply for the job, and I was offered a position at graduation.”
Snider is the first C of O graduate to find a position with the Ozark Fire Protection District. The District has been to the career expo two times in the past, each year returning to find valuable hires. “We were looking for certain individuals who are willing to work, which is not a problem at this school. It is Hard Work U.,” Snider said. “The District is looking for someone who is adaptable and ready to make a difference.”
Approximately 245 students visited the on-campus career expo throughout the day. Benjamin Lunsford, freshman business administration major, visited the career expo for the first time.
“I feel my classes at C of O so far have prepared me for this event,” Lunsford said. “In one of the classes I took, we discussed necessary tools for job applications and created resumes.”
