Position Title:  Student Admissions Assistant

1.  Narrative Description: 

The Admissions Office operates from 8 am to 5 pm Monday through Friday, and is the first contact with potential students and their families.  The Admissions Assistants work extensively with prospective students, from providing information about the College and its programs, to conducting tours for individual and/or groups of prospective students and working with prospective students’ applications/files.


 A.  The following are primary duties and responsibilities of this position:

  • Greet all visitors to the Admissions Office
  • Information requests/mailings
  • Prospective student tours of campus
  • Record and process new applications received
  • Record new information/documentation received for applicant files
  • Periodic correspondence with applicants regarding file completion
  • Answer all calls concerning candidate files
  • Auditing of admissions files
  • Recording fees and other materials received for accepted students
  • Transfer information/files to other offices at appropriate times
  • Periodic correspondence with accepted students
  • E-mail replies and follow-up
  • Schedule recruiter visits to schools and college fairs
  • Mailings to high school counselors

Position Title:  Beef Cattle Production Worker

1.  Narrative Description

The Beef Farm’s primary job is caring for the cattle, which is not a 9 to 5 job.  Just like any other farm, flexible hours, transportation, and hard work are involved.  To run a successful operation, priorities must be made.


   A.  The following are the primary duties and responsibilities of this position:  General management and care of beef cattle are as follows:

  • Feeding cattle
  • Health care of animals
  • Maintenance of equipment and facilities
  • Moving animals
  • Calving cows
  • Record keeping
  • Dehorning, castrating, breeding and tattooing cattle
  • Building and maintaining fence
  • Brush hogging
  • Operating trucks and tractors
  • Mowing, raking, baling and hauling hay

   B.   The following are the possible secondary duties and responsibilities:

  • Applying ear tags
  • Cleaning and bedding
  • Weighing
  • Painting buildings, fences, and equipment
  • Cleaning and washing trucks

Position Title:  Dairy Worker

1.  Narrative Description:

Students are scheduled to work at the dairy from 4 am to 10 pm, 7 days a week. However, they may be required to work later or come in earlier if needed.  Work at the dairy centers around the general management and care of dairy cattle, facilities,pastures, and milk processing.


   A.   The following are primary duties and responsibilities of this position:

  • Milk dairy cows
  • Feed cattle
  • Process and package milk
  • Deliver and sell milk
  • Maintain grounds and buildings

   B.   The following are possible secondary duties and responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain fences

Individuals having severe allergies (hay, dust, pollen, grass, hair) will need to be aware that they will have exposure to allergens.  They need to notify their work supervisor and have proper means to control reactions (epinephrine, allergy medication, etc.). An individual’s assignments at the dairy will be determined by skill level and their willingness to work.
 


Department:     Agriculture

Position Title:    Feed Mill Operator

Schedule Flexibility (1-5 scale with 5 as most flexible):  3

Schedule flexibility is generally between 6 am and 6 pm Monday through Friday.  On a rotating basis, one worker is designated "on-call for the weekend" in case of emergency or in the event we didn't do our job adequately during the week.


1.  Narrative Description

The Feed Mill operates Monday through Friday and provides all the feeds for the college livestock, including the dairy herd, beef herd, and swine herd.

   A.   The following are primary duties and responsibilities of this position:

  • Operate and maintain machinery which conveys, grinds, crushes, and mixes grain and other ingredients to make feeds
  • Operate and maintain 2-ton truck with manual transmission and hydraulically-driven augers to deliver most of the feeds
  • Handle bags up to 65 pounds by hand and with a two-wheel hand-truck
  • Read and understand written instructions for properly and safely operating and maintaining machinery and mixing and delivering feeds
  • Keep handwritten records of feed-making and maintenance tasks
  • Maintain, through proper housekeeping and sanitation procedures, the feed mill building and the sale barn building (used as a storage area for packaged feed ingredients) and the outdoor area surrounding these buildings
  • Receive bulk grain delivered by tractor-trailer
  • Drive pickups and 1-ton trucks with manual and automatic transmissions to perform various tasks, including trips to Harrison, AR, and Ozark and Springfield, MO, to purchase and haul feed ingredients and other farm supplies
  • Cooperate with other college student workers and employees who place feed orders, perform maintenance and repair work, and do work on group projects
  • Provide friendly and informative reception to visitors who come to the feed mill area to visit the dairy, tractor museum, etc.

   B.   The following are possible secondary duties and responsibilities:

Position Title:    Hog Farm Worker

1.  Narrative Description:

The Hog Farm is a part of the Agriculture Department’s farming operations designed to teach students the skills, knowledge, and management techniques necessary to operate and succeed at the production of high quality swine.


  A.   The following are the primary duties and responsibilities of this position:

  • Animal care issues including: health, nutrition, reproduction, sanitation, birthing, disease control, comfort, feeding, watering, shipping, marketing, baby pig processing, surgical castration, selection of replacement stock, and growth of the swine
  • Physical facilities including: mowing, trimming, chain saw work, fencing, basic carpentry, basic plumbing, basic repairs to equipment and buildings and occasional cement work
  • Equipment care, operation, and safety including: driving a truck with both standard and automatic transmissions, brush hogging, feed wagon, hydraulic hog cart, water wagon, big bale lift, loader operation, two and four wheel wagons, and manure spreader. The proper maintenance of this equipment is also required including, but not limited to: starting and stopping properly, gear selection and shifting, braking, checking all fluids and tire pressure, hydraulic operation, hitching to and unhooking from equipment, greasing, oiling, and cleaning
  • Human relations skills including: working as a well- functioning team member, very good communications skills involving both speaking and writing. Good attitude, respectful, courteous, easy to work with, mature, responsible, enthusiastic, cooperative, a problem solver, and a self starter
  • Record keeping skills including: both personnel and animal data entry and maintenance
  • Periodic weekend work doing chores based upon a fair rotation of the student workers at the farm

   B.   The following are possible secondary duties and responsibilities:

  • Wash trucks and equipment, mop, sweep, general cleaning, and haul trash/garbage, paint, clear selected wooded areas, and register litters of pigs
  • Talk to visitors and interested hog buyers in an intelligent and friendly manner
  • Assist in the delivery of piglets from a sow in distress during birthing

2.  Basic Qualifications:

  • Physically fit and willing to do strenuous labor
  • Preferably an agriculture major
  • Works safely in all aspects of the job
  • Understands good basic animal care
  • Understands good facility and equipment care
  • A schedule that is clear of classes so work can occur either all morning or all afternoon
  • A driver’s license and safe history of driving and equipment operation

The Hog Farm is located approximately 5.6 miles from the campus. Students clock-in at the dairy and drive a college truck to the farm. Students must be safety conscience in every aspect of the farm operation. It is also desirable that the student worker can function properly without close supervision by his senior student worker peers or the farm manager once they are trained.

Position Title:    Horticultural Assistant

1.  Narrative Description:

The horticultural facilities for the Agriculture Department serve as teaching aids and include a tissue culture laboratory, other laboratories with various plant science equipment, and a one acre fruit and ornamental orchard.

   A.   The following are the primary duties and responsibilities of this position:

  • Maintain plant materials and general cleanliness within the horticultural tissue culture laboratory
  • Prepare plants, equipment and other materials for course use
  • Maintain chemical and equipment inventories, and maintain equipment and supplies
  • Maintain outdoor plant materials in the teaching orchard including mowing, pruning, grafting, planting, weeding, harvesting and pest management
  • Interact with students and staff in a collegial manner with a positive attitude. It is often necessary to take initiative and work unsupervised
  • Prepare for and work at the annual Future Farmers of America workshop held each spring semester

   B.   The following are possible secondary duties and responsibilities:

  • Assist professors with academic projects, guidance of students in the use of the facilities, and computer research and data input
  • Meet with visitors and prospective students, provide information on the department and the horticulture program

Position Title:  Processing Plant Worker

1.  Narrative Description: 

The Processing Plant oversees the slaughter and processing of USDA inspected and approved pork and beef (live animal to finished product), including butchering, cutting and smoking meats, curing hams, cleaning facilities and equipment, general maintenance and maintaining records, among other duties.  Plant hours are from 7 am to 3 pm.  All processing will be completed during this period, but work hours are not limited to this time frame. 

   A.   The following are primary duties and responsibilities of this position:

Position Title:    Agriculture Secretary/Office Assistant

As team members, we are expected to be at work from 8 am to 9 pm, Monday through Thursday, and 8 am to 5 pm on Friday.  We are all responsible for carrying out the Agriculture Office mission statement: Our mission is to assist the agriculture professors and students in the general operation of the department.  The following areas are vital to the success of our mission: appearance, student recruitment, teamwork, attention to detail, and to provide information about the Agriculture Department.  Team management is practiced in the Agriculture Office. This style of management empowers each assistant to manage projects and improve the standardization of office procedures. As office assistants we provide general secretarial services to the agriculture professors, to the managers of the farm operations, and to the students of College of Ozarks.

   A.  The following are primary duties and responsibilities of this position:

  • Each office assistant is required to manage at least one project each semester. The office organization system is continuously updated by the revamping of project procedural manuals

Position Title:   Alumni Office Student Worker

1.  Narrative Description: 

The Alumni Office, located in the Alumni Center, operates five days a week 8 am to 5 pm.  Alumni Office student workers assist the Director of Alumni Affairs in carrying out the tasks of the office.

   A.   The following are primary duties and responsibilities of this position:

  • Thoroughly learn the computer system which involves more than just knowing how to operate a computer.  All alumni records and accounts are maintained and updated in the Alumni Office on a database designed for alumni use.
  • Answer the phone properly, greet alumni and other visitors to the Center/Office, file, organize and carry out specific weekly-assigned duties, update files, proofread, pick up and deliver mail, and keep a list of supply needs.
  • ALUMNI NEWS:  Alumni student staff do most of the typing and proofreading of this alumni publication that is published three times a year.  Sometimes students are assigned articles to write for the publication.
  • HOMECOMING:  Much work and planning goes into Homecoming each year.  Students help with all phases from developing the chosen theme to working with reunion years, selling tickets, collecting dues and receiving contributions.
  • CLEANING:  The Alumni Center is maintained by the Alumni Office student staff.  Cleaning duties are divided evenly among the staff. Some jobs are weekly, while others are daily.  It is very important one does the assigned job on the appropriate day to ensure that the Center is clean at all times.

   B.   The following are possible secondary duties and responsibilities:

  • Assist the Public Relations Office with bus tours as needed.

Position Title: Pottery Assistant

1.  Narrative Description: 

The production pottery assistants work in the Art Department Clay Studio. They maintain the facilities, assist with the academic classes in the Art Annex when needed, and produce pottery for the Keeter Center Gift Shop.

   A. The following are primary duties and responsibilities of this position:

  • Maintain the Art Annex: clean and organize the studios
  • Maintain the equipment: shop and clay studios
  • Produce pottery for the Keeter Center Gift Shop

   B. The following are possible secondary duties and responsibilities:

2.  Basic Qualifications:

  • Ideally, students should have taken a clay class and be knowledgeable in pottery methods

Position Title: Biology Assistant

Students serve as departmental assistants in the Biology Department, helping to prepare study materials, grading tests and otherwise assisting in the work of the department.

   A. The following are primary duties and responsibilities of this position:

  • Laboratory Assistant – Assist the instructor in preparation of labs, preparing handouts, preparing and grading labs quizzes and exams, entering grades into the computers, cleaning the laboratory
  • Animal Room Worker – Maintain living animal collections by feeding and watering animals, and cleaning cages and animal room
  • Biology Greenhouse Worker – Maintain Biology greenhouse by watering and feeding plants, planting and repotting existing collections, weeding and cleaning
  • Ecotox Lab Worker – Maintain Ecotoxicology Lab organisms including preparation of test water and food for test organisms
  • Office Manager – Assist faculty members in maintaining budget records, processing of exams, etc.
  • Herbarium Worker – Assist faculty member in maintaining the college herbarium by maintenance of specimen cases, record keeping, and preparation and accession of new specimens
  • Tutoring – Assist biology students in department’s tutoring program

Department:     Bonner Community Service Program

Position Title:   Bonner Student

1.  Narrative Description:

The Bonner Program consists of 50 students that apply and are interviewed by the Bonner Director.  If accepted, the Bonner student will then be placed at an off-campus, community service worksite.  The community worksites have also gone through an application process.

There are approximately 30 off-campus worksites and include a variety of job related tasks.

In addition to the off-campus worksites, several Bonner students work in the Bonner Office and have scheduled hours to clean the Campus Ministries Building.

Department:     Business Department (academic unit)

Position Title:   Faculty Assistant/Lab Attendant

Schedule Flexibility (1-5 scale with 5 as most flexible): 3

1.  Narrative Description: 

Hours:  7:50 am to 5 pm (some evening and weekend work).  The Business Department/lab attendant position requires general office hours to be covered, along with nights and some weekend hours for the computer lab.

   A. The following are primary duties and responsibilities of this position:

  • Handle general office responsibilities including clerical, grading and other assignments as directed by faculty
  • Maintain the professional appearance of the main office and the business computer lab through regular maintenance

Schedule Flexibility:  1 – There is no flexibility once the schedules are made for the semester. The Director will do all the scheduling, the student can only request certain hours but cannot be guaranteed these hours.

The Child Development Center is open Monday thru Friday, 7 am to 6 pm twelve months of the year.  The Child Development Center is a licensed child care center that operates for children of the faculty and staff,  then opens to the community. The children range in age from two to six.

  • Always be on time so others can get to class
  • Find a replacement before you ask for time off
  • Teach children in the classroom with other student workers
  • Help with maintenance of the facility (bathrooms, kitchen, cleaning, scrubbing, pulling weeds, etc.)

Custodial North’s normal hours are Monday – Friday, 7 am – 5 pm.  We also work weekend and nights as needed to finish special tasks or work during school activities (sporting events, convos, etc.)

Edwards Mill is a fully operational grist mill, open year round for visitors.  Students mill products, weave on looms, weave baskets, and sell products.  Work hours are 8 am – 4:30 pm Monday through Friday (February 1-March 31) and 8 am – 4:30 pm Monday through Saturday (April 1 – December).

  • Mill-grind product and make mixes

The building hours are 7am-5pm.  Work schedules will be worked around class schedules but we will try to maintain the building hours.

The student workers will assist the Financial Aid Coordinator and Financial Aid Director in the administration of federal, state, and institutional aid in accordance with applicable regulations, thereby serving the students of the institution with their financial aid needs.

  • Use a manual filing system, accurately process FAFSAs, taxes, and other documents, in the student financial aid files

Student workers qualified for, and assigned to, the campus fire department are expected to maintain high levels of readiness and professionalism. They maintain a very high state of readiness to respond as necessary to medical emergencies (initial care) and fires on campus. They are occasionally requested to respond off campus to assist local fire department emergencies.

Position Title:   Lab Assistant

1.  Narrative Description: 

The Foreign Language Lab operates Sunday – Friday, six days a week.  The weekly Monday-Friday schedule varies depending upon the availability of the student assistants to schedule work hours. (Normally from 8 am – 4 pm).  The lab is open at night from 6 pm – 9 pm Sunday – Thursday.  It serves as a tutorial station and practice site for all foreign language students. Individual language tutoring is available at any time the lab is open.

   A.  The following are primary duties and responsibilities of this position:

  • Maintain the reception office for the Language Department
  • Transfer incoming calls to each language professor when necessary
  • Serve as administrative assistants to all language professors with any task at hand:  copying, grading, tutoring, etc.
  • Maintain the computer lab for student practice in required assignments from professors
  • Offer language tutoring in the Language Lab upon request
  • Grade and post language placement exams

Position Title: Front Gate Security

The Front Gate workers are scheduled to work two shifts per week (one 7-hour shift and one 8-hour shift).  Workers greet people coming onto campus and assist visitors by giving directions to places of interest. They have constant radio contact with Campus Security.

  • Public relations (greeting visitors as they come onto campus)

Position Title:  Baker / Jelly Cook

The Fruitcake and Jelly Kitchen operates 5 days a week from 8 am to 5 pm (Summer- 7:30 am to 4:30 am)

We bake about 25 to 30 thousand fruitcakes a year and cook 30 to 35 thousand jars of jellies, preserves and apple butter.

   A.   The following are primary duties and responsibilities of this position:

  • Measure and mix ingredients accurately to have a quality product when finished
  • Make decisions as to when the product is done
  • Package product to store until needed
  • Maintain cleanliness at all times in and around food product
  • Check in groceries each week
  • Take inventory of groceries and finished product on a weekly basis

  • Process phone, email and mail orders of student-made products on computer

Heating & Air shop is responsible for maintenance and regulation of all heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems in all existing and new campus facilities.

  • Change filters on HVAC units
  • Make repairs on units for leaks, etc.

Position Title:    Health Clinic Student Worker

The campus health clinic helps to serve the basic health and medical needs for the College’s students. The clinic sees approximately four to five thousand students, faculty, and staff in one year’s time.  Students are seen for sickness, work related accidents, immunization updates, and physical examinations. Faculty and Staff are seen for workman’s comp accidents, or BP checks.

   A.  The following are primary duties and responsibilities of this position:

  • Answer phones, take messages, answer simple questions to patients about clinic activities and rules
  • Keep charts up to date, make new charts on incoming students, file charts, fill out forms for students charts
  • Enter data into the computer
  • Check out equipment on loan, charge out OTC drugs
  • Transport patients to various doctors offices and appointments
  • Take vital signs on new patients each day
  • Run errands all over campus to other departments
  • Assist the nurses or PA with hands-on care
  • Assist with first aid, and patient-care activities

Position Title:  Student Office Assistant

The work is generally scheduled between 8am and 5pm, Monday through Friday. There may be a rare occasion (perhaps twice each semester due to a special event) when the office worker would be asked to work evening or weekend hours.

1.  Narrative Description:

The office assistant will provide general clerical, administrative and classroom support to the Hotel & Restaurant Management faculty, will meet visitors to the HRM program, will be available to assist The Keeter Center professional staff when approved, and will assist in the planning and management of departmental activities.

  • Run errands including mail, file delivery, office supplies, and document delivery

  • Prepare material for classes and events including word processing and photocopying
  • Welcome visitors and guests to the HRM program

The Keeter Center operates 364 days a year (closed Christmas Day). A banquet server is responsible for meeting or exceeding the guest’s expectations before, during and after each banquet function. Job functions include a friendly relationship with all guests when in contact with them and to listen and respond to guest's special needs and complaints with sincerity. Service responsibilities include set up and placement of tables, table linens, place settings, and centerpieces, serving food and beverages, along with clearing and clean up of all dishware, glasses, silverware and linens and completion of all other banquet related duties.

  • Assist with set up of banquet and meeting functions with items such as tables, linens, dishware, silverware, glassware, centerpieces etc.

The Keeter Center operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The Maintenance Department is on duty from 7 am to 8 pm. We are on call after hours. Trouble calls are handled by the paid staff.

  • Handle all customer-related trouble calls: lights out in rooms, plumbing problems, trash, pickup outside, parking lot cleanup
  • Maintain audio/visual equipment for the Keeter Center. This includes catered events

  • Greenhouse Operations:  plant sales, seeding, watering, transplanting, floral arranging, maintaining orchid collection and visitor tours

  • Pest Control (insect-weeds): lawns, shrubs, trees, non-crop areas

Alumni Laundry operates form 7:30 am – 4:30 pm, Monday thru Friday, and is a service department on campus.  The laundry receives staff, faculty, student, and all service department laundry.

  • Pick up and deliver all laundry on campus
  • Separate clothes, tag them, wash in machine and use dryers
  • Press all sheets, pillowcases, tablecloths, and napkins on the flat iron

  • Sell admission tickets, museum shop merchandise and check in/receive payment for group tours when they arrive at the Museum

KCOZ-FM operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, programming top 100 Jazz, Blues, and special campus events.

   A.  The following are primary duties and responsibilities of this position:

  • Operate the master control console
  • Follow the RCS program log
  • Present LEGAL station identification
  • Send and receive EAS (emergency alert system) testing
  • Announce musical selections, weather, news, etc.
  • Observe all rules and regulations of the Federal Communications Commission
  • Assigned Production

   B.  The following are possible secondary duties and responsibilities:

  • General station cleaning:  sweep, dust, mop, trash duty, restroom cleaning, etc.
  • Pick up mail and faxes

2.  Basic Qualifications:

  • Must be able to communicate effectively and maintain intelligent on-air personality
  • Must be able to work scheduled hours
  • Must be prompt and reliable

As a control operator for KCOZ, you are directly responsible for the overall sound of the radio station.  In the course of a week we reach thousands of listeners.  The best way to retain our audience is to provide them with the quality service they expect.


Department:   Registrar’s Office

Position Title: Student Office Worker

Schedule Flexibility (1-5 scale with 5 as most flexible):   3 

Hours are Monday – Friday, 8 am to 5 pm, and we stay open over the lunch hour.

1.  Narrative Description: 
The student workers in the Registrar’s Office work extensively with student records, including transcripts, enrollment, and schedule changes.  They have continuous contact with students, faculty, staff, and parents. 
The following are primary duties and responsibilities of this position:

  • Scan student records
  • Pre-registration and registration procedures
  • Process transcript requests
  • Answer the telephone and respond to email requests (be able to direct the call/email to an appropriate person or office, as necessary)
  • Routine office work: typing, filing, faxing, shredding, etc.
  • Contact incoming students
  • Prepare files for scanning
  • Assist the Registrar with transcript evaluations of transfer credit

2.  Basic Qualifications:

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks at one time
  • Ability to pay attention to detail
  • Self-motivated
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to type and use Microsoft Office programs

Department:   Security

Position Title:   Student Security Officer

Schedule Flexibility (1-5 scale with 5 as most flexible):  3

1.  Narrative Description:

The Student Security Officers work with the Staff Security Officers and strive to provide a safe and secure campus for our college family and visitors. They are scheduled to work shifts which usually range from two to five hours in length. They also work major convocations, graduation and the NAIA National Basketball Tournament.

   A.  The following are primary duties and responsibilities of this position:

  • General patrol of the campus (both vehicle and foot patrol)
  • Lock and/or unlock campus buildings on a set schedule
  • Lock and/or unlock facilities according to facilities permits
  • Enforce College rules and regulations pertaining to parking and traffic
  • Work parking and traffic control for large functions
  • Work vehicle accidents and incidents that occur on College property

   B.  The following are possible secondary duties and responsibilities:

  • Work security at bookstore during the first week of each semester

2.  Basic Qualifications:

  • Criminal Justice major
  • Must be physically able to perform their duties (walking, climbing stairs, lifting heavy objects, etc.)

Department: Sociology

Position Title: Sociology Social Club Director/Faculty Assistant

1. Narrative Description:

The Sociology Department hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.. This position will require that some duties be conducted outside departmental hours.

   A. The following are primary duties and responsibilities of this position:

  • Assist with daily operations of the Sociology Department
  • Setup Sociology booth (ex. Senior Day)
  • Network with professionals in the community and schedule guest speakers for the Sociology Department/Club
  • Maintain a database of past Sociology graduates with contact information and current job status
  • Coordinate community service projects in affiliation with the Sociology social club
  • Organize campus participation (ex. Homecoming festivities)

   B. The following are secondary duties and responsibilities:

  • Contact graduate programs regarding admission requirements and procedures
  • Assist professor with internship paperwork

2. Basic Qualifications:

  • Sociology major planning to attend graduate school

The student assigned to the Speech Department office will assist the professors in the Speech Department by performing secretarial and other office duties.

  • Grade tests and keeping a grade book
  • Daily mail runs

Department:     Stained Glass and Candles

Position Title:   Stained Glass Artist/Candle Maker

1.  Narrative Description:

The Stained Glass/Candles Department operating hours are 8 am to 5 pm Monday through Friday, closed on Saturday and Sunday.  The department is closed the weeks of Thanksgiving and Christmas. 

   A.  The following are primary duties and responsibilities of this position:

  • Learn the art of stained glass
  • Learn candle making process
  • Produce saleable merchandise for the Keeter Center gift shop
  • Greet and answer questions of department visitors
  • General maintenance of equipment and tools

  • General cleaning of the work area
  • Professionally answer incoming department phone calls (in absence of supervisor)

Department:   Steno  Pool

Position Title: Steno Pool Student Worker/Administrative Assistant

1.  Narrative Description:

The Steno Pool worker’s main priority is to serve the professors in the Jones Building in whatever capacity that they might need.  We are open from 8 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday.  It is also the information center for all activities occurring in the Jones Building.  The main departments that are served include: English, History, Art, Philosophy/Religion, Foreign Language, Sociology, and Theatre. 

   A.  The following are primary duties and responsibilities of this position:

  • Typing: Syllabi, tests, handouts, articles, finals, books, whatever the professors might need
  • Copying: We do more copies than anything else
  • Grading: Objective tests for professors
  • Mail: Pick-up and deliver the mail to professors twice daily
  • Errands: Often it is necessary to go to the Dean of the College’s Office, Campus Ministries, Switchboard, or the Warehouse
  • Monitoring tests: When professors are out of town, or if they happen to be sick, workers pass out tests and sit with students until they have all completed the exams
  • Administering evaluations: Once a semester, we help the Dean of the College’s Office in passing out evaluations on the professors and collecting them for processing
  • Scanning and generating reports for evaluations: We also scan all of the evaluations and print out reports for each class
  • Scanning portfolios: It is our job to collect an artifact from four different classes in the General Education program for each student.  These are then scanned into the computers and kept track of to insure that each student’s work has been assessed

   B.  The following are secondary duties and responsibilities:

  • Kitchen duties: Make coffee each day and clean dishes
  • General cleaning: The office must be dusted, swept and mopped when needed
  • Answer phones: It is necessary to answer the phones and direct students’ questions about professor’s schedules and answer any other questions they may have

Department:    Student Senate Office

Position Title:  Student Senate Office Worker

1.  Narrative Description

The Student Senate Office operates from 8 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday.  Students also work at other times performing necessary tasks and attending events related to the Student Senate.  Student workers perform a number of primary and secondary tasks during the typical day.

   A.  The following are primary duties and responsibilities of this position:

  • Provide fellow students service through useful and professional representation, and the sponsorship of varied and numerous enjoyable, character building activities.  Specifically, coordinate annual Homecoming activities, dances and other activities during the year (Spring Formal, etc.), operate the Student Activities Center, and organize and operate a student book sale each semester
  • Plan, coordinate, and staff all senate related actions among senators; gaining desired guidance from advisors, and support from the administration
  • Professionally conduct senate meetings; and keep students, faculty, and administrators informed about the minutes
  • Perform assigned (senate officer specific) and implied tasks in a timely manner
  • Identify and purchase senate office and program needs through the warehouse and commercial vendors

   B.  The following are possible  secondary duties and responsibilities.

  • Greeting College guests
  • Empty and reline all senate trash cans, daily if necessary
  • Sweep and mop the office and the Student Activity Center

Department:    Switchboard

Position Title:  Switchboard Operator

1.  Narrative Description: 

The Switchboard operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and is the communication center of the campus.  The Switchboard receives all off-campus, incoming calls, as well as calls from students, faculty, staff and administrators on campus.

    A.  The following are primary duties and responsibilities of this position:

  • Answer all incoming calls from on and off campus and route them to the appropriate location
  • Maintain radio contact with the campus security, fire department and various administrative officials
  • Monitor the campus alarm system and notify the proper authorities when the alarms are activated
  • Handle incoming and outgoing fax correspondence

   B.  The following are possible secondary duties and responsibilities:

  • Sweep, dust mop and general cleaning of the Switchboard work space
  • Assist, on occasion, with the Student Work Office activities

  • Follow the cleaning schedule
  • Keep tools, equipment and supplies in their proper location
  • Keep trash containers emptied regularly
  • Sweep, dust, vacuum as required
  • Clean restrooms and lavatory as required
  • Design, construct, modify and apply/install various items as needed
  • Serve as laboratory assistant in drafting lab

   B.  The following are possible secondary duties and responsibilities:

  • Do millwork as needed
  • Perform special assignments for Senior Day, Character Camp, department tours, etc.
  • Perform tasks/assignments as requested from work supervisor or Technology Department faculty

  • Perform the secretarial tasks for the department: typing, word processing, filing, copying, maintaining records, handling telephone services
  • Maintain and care for equipment (computers, typewriters, furniture, calculators, etc.)

Position Title:  Student Assistant

The Telephone Office operates Monday thru Friday and can be open anytime from 8 am to 5 pm. The Student Assistant reports to the Telephone Office Manager and will help maintain the campus telephone Switch and Phonemail systems.

   A.  The following are primary duties and responsibilities of this position:

  • Customer service, record and respond to customer requests in a timely manner
  • Maintain and update the Switch and Phonemail systems
  • Update Telemate database and billing profiles
  • Deliver/receive office mail
  • Clean the office

   B.  The following are possible secondary duties and responsibilities:

  • Send out approved broadcast messages to campus
  • Organize projects
  • Additional projects to make efficient use of time

Department:     Theatre Department

Position Title:   Jones Theatre Company Student Worker

1.  Narrative Description: 

Students assigned to the Theatre Department are involved in all phases of theatrical production, as the department stages several major play productions each year.  The “Jones crew” also is responsible for having the Jones Auditorium ready for the many other events held there each year (convocations, Homecoming Queen Coronation ceremony, music programs, etc.), and for providing technical support for these events.

   A.  The following are primary duties and responsibilities of this position:

  • All phases of theatrical production, as the department stages several major play productions each year
  • Prepare the Jones Auditorium for events such as the convocation series, Homecoming Queen Coronation ceremony, music programs and community events
  • Maintaining the physical plant of the theatre

   B.  The following are possible secondary duties and responsibilities:

  • Office management skills
  • Acclimating Theatre practicum students to the theatre work station
  • Support the theatre club, Act One

2.  Basic Qualifications:

  • Genuinely interested in theatre

1.  We believe adhering to the College of the Ozarks policies and guidelines concerning conduct and behavior, maintaining a high degree of professional decorum while on the job, and becoming familiar with the College work program’s primary objectives as stated in the College catalog and student  handbook.

2.  Technical support includes but is not limited to the following areas of theatre as per show requirements: set construction, costumes, props, scene painting, makeup and hair assistance, lighting and sound reinforcement, back stage running crews, follow spotlight operators, lighting and sound board operations, sound production, dressers, costume maintenance, maintenance of theater facility and equipment, publicity, ticket reservations, box office and ushers.


Department:    Transportation

Position Title:  Transportation Student Worker

1.  Narrative Description:

Transportation operates 8 am to 12 pm and 1 pm to 5 pm Monday through Friday. The Transportation Department takes care of all campus vehicles and road vehicles belonging to the College. Transportation is in charge of setting up for special events and assisting in various projects that require labor support.

   A.  The following are primary duties and responsibilities of this positions

  • Wash and clean College vehicles
  • Lubricate, change the oil, and check all fluid levels of vehicles
  • Assist staff mechanics in minor or major repairs on campus vehicles and other motorized equipment (tillers, mowers, etc.)
  • Assist other departments on campus in various ways, including, but not limited to:
    • Moving furniture for various departments
    • Moving pianos, organs, and other music instruments, for the music department, for special programs etc.
    • Unloading mail
    • Unloading truckloads of jars, cans, boxes at the Fruitcake and Jelly Department
    • Picking up supplies in Branson and/or Springfield for the Hospital and Construction
    • Transporting packages for campus Bookstore
    • Helping deliver items for the Warehouse
    • Moving tables and chairs for the many special programs, picnics, banquets, and convocations throughout the year

   B.  The following are possible secondary duties and responsibilities:

  • Transport, twice weekly, students to and from Wal-Mart
  • Occasional weekend events, on campus, requiring several students
  • Provide labor wherever needed on campus, when there is something to load, unload, or transport from one place to another

2.  Basic Qualifications:

  • Must be able to lift reasonably heavy objects
  • Must have a valid drivers license and pass drivers safety course

3.   Desirable Qualifications:

  • Have an understanding or moderate mechanical knowledge
  • Must have a pleasant demeanor and some computer skills
  • Must display respect for College vehicles and property

Department:    Warehouse

Position Title:  Warehouse Crew

Schedule Flexibility (1-5 scale with 5 as most flexible):  3

1.  Narrative Description: 

Student workers at the Warehouse fill requests for supplies for various items needed by offices and departments on campus and will learn how to properly receive, price, stock, sell and deliver items, complete appropriate paperwork and computer entries, as well as other warehouse operations.  The warehouse is the central receiving and shipping point for the College campus which receives packages from commercial carriers. 

   A.  The following are primary duties and responsibilities of this position:

  • Assist customers by helping them find what they need
  • Ship and receive packages for the College, complete the appropriate paperwork, and deliver to appropriate departments
  • Receive items for stocking the warehouse, including using the computer to charge out items, entering items into inventory and typing purchase orders
  • Answer the telephone, including responding to issues and needs of staff, students and outside salesmen

   B.  The following are primary secondary duties and responsibilities:

  • Each student is assigned an area in the warehouse that they are responsible to maintain
  • Do work as requested by purchasing director
  • Housekeeping in the warehouse including box room, van and restroom

2.  Basic Qualifications:

  • Ability to focus on multiple projects
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds
  • Computer literate
  • Have great human relation skills

3.  Desirable Qualifications: 

  • Able to pay attention to details (lots of paperwork)

This department is not major specific, but it does require a motivated, mature and responsible individual who is accountable for his or her decisions.


Department:   Water Treatment Plant

Position Title: Water Treatment Plant Operator

Schedule Flexibility (1-5 scale with 5 being most flexible): 1

1.  Narrative Description:

Water Treatment Plant is responsible for processing all water used on campus.  As operator, one will be responsible for monitoring the processing of water and maintaining the treatment plant.

   A.  The following are primary duties and responsibilities of this position:

  • Check and record hour meter readings
  • Check and record Pac. and Alum feed
  • Check and record chlorine feed and cylinder lbs.
  • Check and wash down sedimentation unit
  • Check air compressors
  • Check wastewater pumps and pits
  • Set up and run raw water test
  • Set up and run finished water test
  • Run backwash
  • Waste and clean sludge basin
  • Monitor sewage lift stations

   B.  The following are possible secondary duties and responsibilities:

  • Upkeep and maintenance on Water Treatment Plant facilities and grounds
  • Maintain and operate back-up generator for sewage system
  • Any task given by work supervisor, assisting on various campus tasks

2.  Basic Qualifications:

  • Must work every other weekend
  • Must complete campus driver’s safety training class
  • Must pay attention to detail
  • Dependability, promptness, and adherence to work schedule

Full-time staff complete most of the dangerous work. The student worker is closely supervised by a staff member.
