30 Hour Famine

C of O students annually partner with World Vision for their 30 Hour Famine event. During this event, students abstain from food for 30 continuous hours in order to identify with the world's poor.  Students begin their fast on the last weekend in February. They erect “shanty towns” made out of cardboard boxes at local stores and learn what it is like to sleep in the cold and how it feels to be hungry. Funds raised by participants from this event help feed and care for children in poverty-afflicted countries around the globe. Additionally, a portion of the funds raised, support World Vision’s efforts to assist families in need in the United States and in World Vision’s response to areas where famine, conflict, and other crises make children vulnerable to hunger and preventable disease. Since 1992, World Vision with 30 Hour Famine has raised more than $118 million, representing countless saved lives.
