Mission and Service
At College of the Ozarks, we believe that God has called us to integrate our Christian faith with our lives, learning, and service. Because of this, we diligently pursue spreading Christ's love to those within our own neighborhoods and the global community.
Annually, Christian Ministries encourages students through internships, mission trips, and service opportunities to participate in God's mission to the world. These experiences often transform students as much as those they serve. As students participate in God's mission, they mature in their biblical understanding of "loving God, themselves, and others."
Bonner Community Service Program
The Bonner Community Service Program is based on the premise that young people care about others and have a unique and important contribution to make to society. This program allows students to access education through opportunities to serve
Students completing their first semester may apply for this worksite. Students are asked to commit to at least two semesters and an interview with the program director and letters of recommendation are necessary. If you wish to apply, applications are available in the Bonner office, which is in the Christian Ministries building, or here.
Mission Trips
Over the years, we have been able to take trips all over the world. Most recently, we have sent students to Australia to do evangelism and discipleship, Cameroon for medical mission work, New Mexico to an Indian reservation, New Orleans for Hurricane Katrina relief and reconstruction, and inner city Memphis to help with home-building. At the center of all of these trips is a deep desire to communicate Christ's love and our hope through both our words and actions.
New Orleans Reconstruction
New Orleans: The New Orleans Service Trip is intended to help the New Orleans community as they continue to rebuild their homes, businesses, and lives following Hurricane Katrina. In order to do this, we partner with Touch Global, a ministry of the Evangelical Free Church of America. While there, we serve in a variety of ways, from reconstruction to prayer walks and from outreach to meal preparation.
Service Over Self
Memphis:The SOS trip to Memphis is intended to empower and transform depressed neighborhoods in the Memphis area through home repairs. Throughout the week, we concentrate our efforts on repairs in Binghampton, a depressed area of Memphis, in order to demonstrate Christ’s love through both our words and our actions to the people who live there.
