Coach Bob Osburn

Our condolences go out to the family of former Coach Bob Osburn, who passed away on Friday September 20, 2013.  Coach Osburn came to School of the Ozarks in 1957 after serving in the United States Air Force during World War II.  He coached track and cross country, after earning his Bachelor of Science from Northwest Missouri State University and Master of Education from University of Missouri. Osburn was named Coach of the Year twice and earned the distinction of being named District 16 Coach of the Year at least nine times in his career. While under his leadership, the Track and Cross Country Team won 25 conference championships and seven district championships. He also coached Jesse Beard, a qualifier of the United States Olympic Trials in track and field.   Coach Osburn was inducted into the College of the Ozarks' Hall of Fame in 1987, and the College’s track was named in his honor this past spring.  Osburn used sports as an avenue through which he taught about life, character, and sacrifice.   A memorial service honoring Coach Osburn’s life will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, October 5, 2013 at the First Presbyterian Church in Branson.
