The Chapter approved a $500 contribution to the Business Undergraduate Society for the 2009-2010 school year.
The Business Undergraduate Society is planning a fall 2009 trip to Carthage, Missouri, to visit Leggett and Platt and Butterball. They are also working on a spring trip.
Rachel Mullinax presented the SIFE report. SIFE is sponsoring a SIFE Alumni Reception at Homecoming 2009. Alumni Chapter members were invited to attend. SIFE won at regionals last year and qualified for national competition. They are currently active in many projects. They are working with eighth graders on career choices. SIFE is again doing the fruitcake project. An ethics symposium will be held in the spring of 2010. They are doing an Econo Tour with seventh graders for the second time. This project allows seventh graders to visit with international students from C of O.
Rex Mahlman gave an update on Sigma Beta Delta. He explained Sigma Beta Delta’s beginning at College of the Ozarks in November of 2008. The Chapter authorized the purchase of honor cords for our business honor society graduates in the spring of 2009. The Chapter also approved the purchase of honor cords for the Business Department faculty. This was 16 cords (10 students and 6 faculty) at $8 per honor cord, total $128.
Officers for next year will be Robert Wheeler, President, moving up from Vice-President, Cheryl Williams, Vice-President, moving up from Secretary/Treasurer, and Kevin Riley, Secretary/Treasurer, elected at this meeting.
Next year will mark the tenth year of the passing of Mrs. Winfrey. It was suggested that we emphasize this in promoting our meeting next year and that perhaps some targeted giving could accompany this promotion. It was also suggested that this might help attendance at our yearly meeting, as the majority of business alumni had known Mrs. Winfrey. It was decided to think of ideas and work on this idea via email exchange.
The meeting was adjourned at 11:40 a.m.
Rex Mahlman, Acting Secretary
