FAFSA Instructions

2017-2018 School Year

The information below applies to the 2017-18 year, which includes fall 2017, spring 2018 and summer 2018.

If you are applying to College of the Ozarks for the 2017-18 academic year, you will complete the 2017-18 FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid).

A required part of the admissions process is the completion of a 2017-2018 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).  Listed below are the suggested steps you should follow in order to complete your FAFSA.

• Once you have filed a 2017-2018 FAFSA, do not complete another application.  If you did not include the Federal School Code for College of the Ozarks on the FAFSA you submitted, access the FAFSA already completed and add school code 002500 for College of the Ozarks.

• In order to complete a FAFSA, the student and a parent must use a unique Federal Student Aid ID (FSAID). Previously, users submitted the FAFSA using a PIN, but the former PIN process is now obsolete. To create your own unique FSAID, please go to  https://studentaid.ed.gov/sa/fafsa/filling-out/fsaid#parents.

• Complete your FAFSA online at www.fafsa.gov. You will need 2015 tax and other financial information for you and your parents to complete the FAFSA. We highly recommend using the IRS Data Retrieval function in the FAFSA to retrieve unaltered student and parent tax data from the IRS to populate the appropriate FAFSA fields.  Doing so provides a more accurate result and reduces the additional documents required to process the file when it arrives at the College.

• Following completion and submission of your FAFSA, the financial aid office should receive your results in approximately 7-10 business days.

• If additional information is required in order to process your FAFSA results and financial aid file at C of O, the financial aid office will notify you accordingly.

2018-2019 School Year

The information below applies to the 2018-19 year, which includes fall 2018, spring 2019 and summer 2019.

A required part of the admissions process is the completion of a 2018-2019 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) which will be available October 1, 2017. Listed below are the suggested steps you should follow in order to complete your FAFSA.

• If you have already filed a 2018-2019 FAFSA, do not complete another application.  If you did not include the Federal School Code for College of the Ozarks on the FAFSA you submitted, access the FAFSA already completed and add school code 002500 for College of the Ozarks.

To create your own unique FSAID, please go to https://studentaid.ed.gov/sa/fafsa/filling-out/fsaid#parents.

• Complete your FAFSA online at www.fafsa.gov. You will need 2016 tax and other financial information for you and your parents to complete the FAFSA. We highly recommend using the IRS Data Retrieval function in the FAFSA to retrieve unaltered student and parent tax data from the IRS to populate the appropriate FAFSA fields.  Doing so provides a more accurate result and reduces the additional documents required to process the file when it arrives at the College.
