
Degree Requirements and Course Descriptions
the p.e. department
The Physical Education Department at College of the
Ozarks teaches the required courses of Lifetime Fitness
and Swimming plus electives and courses designed to
prepare the student for a professional career in physical
education. Practical experience coupled with a strong
liberal arts and Physical Education curriculum leads
to a well-rounded graduate.
The objectives of the Physical Education major are:
(1) knowledge of the foundations and application of
physical education research should be acquired; (2)
a wide variety of body management skills should be developed;
and (3) the ability to teach and promote fitness-oriented
activities in Physical Education classes, fitness programs,
coaching, health careers, wellness and recreational
activities.
The department offers degree programs for students
with a goal of teaching in secondary or elementary Physical
Education. The department also offers degree programs
for students who do not want to teach. A student may
select a major in Physical Education with an emphasis
in recreational administration or health/wellness. A
coaching minor is also offered.
programs and intramurals
College of the Ozarks is a member of the National Association
of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Division II. The
College is also a charter member of the Midlands Collegiate
Athletic Conference (MCAC). Varsity sports include men's
basketball and baseball, women's basketball and volleyball,
and cheerteam.
Intramural sports are open to the entire student body.
These programs are administered by students who work
in the fieldhouse, and competitions are held in a wide
variety of activities.
facilities
The facilities within the Memorial Fieldhouse include
the 3,500 seat Keeter Gymnasium, indoor swimming pool,
weight room, dance studio and racquetball courts. Outdoor
facilities include an all-weather track, baseball field,
intramural softball and football field, lighted tennis
courts and a sand volleyball court.
