A Lifetime of Difference Begins with C of O Nursing.

Degree Requirements and Course Descriptions

Character of Nursing

Nurses should have a high moral character worthy of the public's trust, effective communication and critical thinking skills, a caring attitude, and be responsible and detail-oriented in their work ethic. Nurses need emotional stability and spiritual strength to cope with human suffering, emergencies, and other stresses.

The nursing department at C of O enthusiastically embraces the College and community's First PLACE! initiative in character education and unique character curriculum courses.

THE ARMSTRONG McDONALD SCHOOL OF NURSING

The BSN program earned Initial Approval status from the Missouri State Board of Nursing in March, 2007. The charter class began in fall, 2007.

Nursing students with an interest in military service should refer to the "Nursing Cadet Program" addressed under the Military Science section of the catalog.

C of O’s BSN program
College of the Ozarks, in its long tradition of excellence, offers a traditional, four-year professional Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree program. After acceptance to the College and completion of at least one year of nursing program prerequisites, the student may apply to the nursing major. Prior to acceptance to the nursing major, a series of academic and physical assessments and interview are required, including a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.50 and a preferred ACT composite score of 21.

Nursing courses are offered in sequence over a six semester plan. Clinical courses include instruction by expert nursing educators in the areas of maternity, pediatrics, adult health, geriatrics, health information technology, mental health, community health, and leadership.

Clinical settings in the beautiful Ozark Mountains range from rural to metropolitan. During the last semester of the program, students engage in a preceptorship program where they work 1:1 with an RN caring for a typical patient caseload. Additionally, through this rigorous program, students will be prepared for success on the National Council Licensing Exam for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN®) and for graduate study. Job placement in nursing remains excellent.
