Degree Requirements and Course Descriptions

Students interested in the Didactic Program in Dietetics should meet the admission criteria to the College. The founding charter commits the College to serving “especially those found worthy but who are without sufficient means to procure such training.” See page six, in the College catalog, www.cofo.edu. CofO students interested in pursuing a career in dietetics should contact the registrar’s office to declare dietetics as a major and the Program Director for advisement as soon as possible. Your advisor will help plan an individual course schedule designed to meet the program requirements. It is important to begin as soon as possible on the dietetics schedule as sequencing of courses is important. Upon successful completion of a laboratory science at College of the Ozarks with an overall GPA of 2.75 or higher, students are eligible to apply for formal admission to the DPD.

If a career as a Registered Dietitian or nutrition professional seems exciting, ask yourself if you have these characteristics:
   1.   concern for people
   2.   assertiveness and confidence
   3.   ability to communicate technical information to the public
   4.   scientific aptitude in chemistry, biochemistry, and math
   5.   organizational and administrative abilities.

The Didactic Program in Dietetics will follow all policies of the College and utilize all student support services available at the College. See the College catalog at www.cofo.edu.

The program will follow the College calendar with the possible exception of Independent Study courses and/or 48V internship/practicum courses.

Dietetic students will not make nutritional assessments, plans, perform diet instructions or education without proper supervision or co-signature of an R.D. or nutritionists who hold liability insurance or is employed by an organization that holds professional insurance.
