While examining your goals at CofO, you may want to consider the unique experiences available through the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC). Our ROTC program provides some of the best leadership training in the world, and develops the essential teamwork and managerial skills required to succeed in any career. Your success as a “Hard Work U” graduate can take you far, and your investment in officer training will build upon that success by adding another highly sought-after skill to your resume: Leadership.
Through the ROTC program, College of the Ozarks students enhance their leadership skills and reinforce self-confidence. By participating, you can discover untapped talents and strengths while taking part in activities such as rappelling, marksmanship, orienteering, leadership reaction courses and field training exercises. Our basic military science courses are enjoyable and could potentially spark your interest to become an Army officer…but regardless of your future career decisions, these courses provide foundational leadership material.
In ROTC classes, you'll study subjects including leadership, Army branches, the role of the officer, military operations and tactics, command and staff functions, and military history. You’ll also have the opportunity to participate in physical fitness and lab events to demonstrate your potential as a future leader. If you're not sure whether ROTC is for you, just remember…you don't have to commit to the program in order to take the basic military science (freshman and sophomore level) classes. At all levels, ROTC provides a common ground for leadership training…training that is useful regardless of major or career choice. This training is beneficial for athletes, math majors, chemists, computer techs, art majors, linguists, and even those who are undecided. Considering future nationwide job prospects, this nationally recognized leadership training regimen might provide the noticeable difference on your resume. ROTC is divided into two elective programs, Basic and Advanced. Those who are qualified and ready for the challenge are encouraged to pursue an Army officer’s commission by completing the Advanced Program.
